Does anybody have a pic of exactly where the tranny fluid drain and fill bolts are located? I searched for it and found the thread, but the pics were down. I'm gonna be changing the fluid on my b16 tomorrow and need to know where they are.. TIA

Most people (including myself) fill it through the VSS hole.

Why, is it really that hard to use the right hole ? I really don't see why people use the VSS hole, do you think the vss hole and the fill hole is at the same level ?

 

when we did mine we used the VSS hole cuz its easier, and easier is always better, remove the fill hole plug, fill through VSS hole until it runs out the fill hole. simple as that. its just easier to most, not any better.

so you remove the fill plug, only to remove the vss plug, to fill it there. sure sounds easier!

exactly, you ever tried filling it through the fill plug w/out the right funnel???

 

Fill plug is SUPER easy. Just get some heater hose (3ft) that will match up toa funnel, and flex it into the fill hole. BAM no removing the vss and it will still drip out the fill hole.

 

yeah, im not saying either way is right or wrong, its just EASIER to remove the extra 1 bolt to pull the VSS out and not worry about the funnel or hose.

i know what you mean though, i do it that way in all the RWD trannies i work on.

 

So for the people using the vss hole, do you just use 2.2 quarts, or do you let it over fill. I can't imagine the vss hole and the fill hole being at the same height.

because most of the time it is a bitch getting the fill plug loose when the motors in the car.. everytime ive done it ive busted some knuckles pushing soo hard then breaking loose and slamming my hand into the firewall...

then you gotta buy the flex funnel..

how much easier is it to pull the vss.. hmm 10mm wrench.. loosen it pull it out.. put 2 quarts of honda mtf in it put the vss back in and tighten the one 10mm bolt.. easy as hell..

honestly its alot easier for me to fill through the vss then the fill plug

some like thier ways tho.. honda trannys take 2.2quarts...only putting 2 quarts of mtf isnt going to hurt a damn thing

if the fill plug is out and it you fill it until it started coming out the fill hole its full.

Little tip, put a 17mm box wrench on the nut, and use a 5lb sledge hammer. Works every single time.

Well then why not just use a funnel with a flexiable head.

it will leak out the excess

& really its just a preference thing

 

yeah, so why is anyone arguing??? i dont like using a flex funnel.

 

this really is a pointless argument, like saying whackin off with your left hand is better than your right.

both ways get the job done, i happen to like using the vss hole, just because its vertical and i dont have to mess with the funnel to get it into the hole. as long as you remove the fill plug you can fill it from anywhere you want

hell, once i had to fill it from the breather (cracked my tranny case in san diego, had a 7 hour drive back home with the tranny leakin, had no tools and had to put fluid in every 50- 100 miles)

before i really new how to work on honda's ( 7 years ago )
when i had a really bad input shaft bearing.. i mean bad... it would leak fluid out bad all over the clutch and everything...

i used to fill it throgh the breather.. you ask how did i know it was empty.. when it started getting really loud.. lmfao
