It won't grind at all if both transmission shafts aren't moving when you select the gear . . . duh.

Well according to the car manual that should be in you glove box, it says that you should stop completly before shifting into reverse. It also says if the grinding is persistant when stopped to but the car in a forward gear first(while not moving) to stop any gears that are still spining from moving forward. So it sounds like Honda knew that it will grind in revo, probably even when the car was brand new.

I believe I remember hearing somewhere that reverse on most hondas doesn't have a synchro. If so, you're going to have a slight grind on reverse.

My 2000 EX has grinded reverse from 7200 miles (when I bought it) to 151000 miles. Sometimes it doesn't want to go in at all. If I put it in another gear, pull it out of gear, disengage the clutch, reengage the clutch, and try reverse again, it usually goes like butter. I am almost certain this is the way it's supposed to be.

You can try GM synchromesh if you're really concerned about it, but it'll still grind reverse.

Try reading the handbook that comes with your car, you'll find some interesting stuff in there.

The reason why your reverse grind while your moving on first gear and throw it into reverse without stoping is because there is no SYNCHROS on reverse to stop for the tranny to move from one place to another. Unless you have a magical fluid that will put Synchros into reverse den you're **** out of luck buddy.
