Default what's hot tanking a block?

hey guys i'm not new to h-t i'm usually in the ef forum.

my question is this.... i'm going to be building my d15b2 soon. and i've never rebuilt a motor before. what are sumthing i should do like what is hot tanking? i'm thinking of messing with porting my intake and my exhaust.

i'm sorry for my noobiness and i doubt i will port but i f i can i will. i'm not going for all preformance right not it's prob just going to be cheap and reliable. please help me out.

its basically a cleaning process...

they drop your nasty *** block into a cleaning solution and pull out a blingin piece of cast aluminum

so i should do it to my block that hass 329xxx on it?
anything else i should or shouldn't do that's a common mistake? my gf is going to be driving the car after i finish installing it. and the LAST thing i want is he breaking down.

You should have it fully balanced if your planning on high revs, which you are if you plan on making power. Second ARP bolts, shot peened rods, and while your at it you should try to step up the displacment cause torque is nice. And if your really looking to make power you PnP your head, port match intake manifold get some cams and of course valve train. Most importantly tune!

personal choice, it's more of a "degreasing" process i'd say.. if your building a d/d with stock parts etc i probably wouldnt bother. I did mine, but I wanted to get it cleany.

If you want it to look real nice, get it glass bead blasted after you get it hot tanked. Hot tanking it will get it clean, but it won't look new.

you shouldnt pay over 100 bucks for hot tanking. i think the average price, atleast in so cal, is around 80.
