Default Air holes on 99-00 D16 heads?

EDI: Talking about the holes that are on the head and IM around the injector area...

OK, so are these nessicary? better yet, what the hell do they do?

I have a 2000y7 block, not sure what year the head is (this was covered in another thread)

Anyways, I was just thinking about if I got a 96-98 IM, instead of 99-00, what the lack of those holes would actually do.

anybody?

They are for the AAV (air assist valve).

See part #24? This is the 6th gen equivalent of the FITV that was used on older Civic's and Teg's.

One hose goes to the intake tube and the other goes to the manifold. As coolant gets hot (this valve is mounted in the thermo housing), it closes the valve down and stops air from going through it and into the manifold, which helped to increase engine speed when the engine was cold.

I'm talking about where the IM mates to the head... where the gasket would be. there are holes, that AREN'T on the 96-98

Just so we are clear =P

Yep, we're both talking about the same thing...my fualt, I can see I wasn't too clear.

Do you have the manifold in front of you? On that flange where the holes are...can you see that they didn't drill those holes all the way through the manifold? Now can you visualize that internally they're all connected and go to that barb/fitting in the middle of the manifold? The output hose from that valve I show, goes there.

Oh ok, sorry about the mixup. haha

So, did the 96-98's not have it? or was it just implimented another way?

I'm just assuming that if I didn't utilize this feature, my car would surge in the cold mornings while in Neutral.

00 y8 manifold has an extra nipple. it's an air injection of some sort, it hook up to your intake and your block through a series of tubes. plug it up, you should be fine.

I mean, does the y7 IM have these holes too?

I have the y7 IM on the y8 head right now, and it runs perfect.

Maybe the head isn't 99-00 afterall? I know it has P2J-5 stamped on it, and a 98

I researched and never found what year the P2J-5 was.

you can read more about all that crap here...

99-00 Y8's were the only ones to get them. 96-98's never had it, nor was it implemented another way. If you bought a 99-00, just cap off that nipple....that simple.

question was he has a y7 IM on a Y8 head. I THINK the nipple connects to the tubes that connect to the block. If it does connect to the head and you're not having any trouble, don't worry about it
