Ok I posted this in my cars section but was told to post here for better results. Basically my carbon fiber hood is starting to look all cloudy towards the middle of it. I've waxed it a few times and nothing I bought a buffer and Figured I would try giving that a shot. Does anyone have any ideas or has this ever happend to you. Please help I don't want to have to buy another hood.

Yeah, I remember seeing another tread where someone used peanut butter and it came out awesome

Contact carbonall he has alot of experience with CF and Kevlar.Sometimes you can take it to a bodyshop and have them wet sand it and reclear it but it depends on how bad it is?Who made the hood my guess is vis they suck and so does their customer support

someone did it on his CRX lkess then a month ago. I remember seeing it and there were pics too I just cant go through the whole ordeal of finding it. Just remember to use creamy not chunky lol

 

Peanut butter??? Please someone help me out I would seriously consider trying it if you now first hand of the outcome. Ya, I was actually just considering re-clear coatinhg it but figured there has got to be other ways first. I just went out and bought a buffer but have not tried it yet.

 

Oh and yes it is a VIS!!!!

 

buffing it will work but for only a short time...also, someone did posted up something about peanut butter and that will work too...My friend wet sand his and buffed then sprayed clear coat on it like 3 yrs ago and it is still shiny til today. so which ever u perfer.

 

Well the other way seems like to much of a hassle. Does the peanut butter only work for a short time or does it actually last. Also what exactly do i do. do i rub it on as if i were waxing it like instead of wax I just use peanut butter.

 

and there is no way that peanut butter is going to replace that.It will help but for a very short period of time the only long lasting way is the clear coat method.All you do with the PB is just rub it all over and let it sit a little while so the oils seep in then wipe it off and clean the hood

 

Also after you repair it use some of that heat shield stuff under the hood since its the heat of the engine that is causing all the problems

 

Ok then ill just get it reclearcoated would I be better off taking it to a place and have it redone or try it myself???

 

If I should do it myself what all do I use and what steps. Basically like how to directions.

Oh no man don't worry it's cool. I just saw somewhere bout people using a some sort of 3m products and wet sand sandpaper but yeah I'd prolly rather have someone else do it depending on how much they charge.

Also that 3M stuff that I spoke of before was 3M Marine Wax. Try that and see if it does anything.

Obviously it doesn't fix anything, it only hides it's oxidized shame... I've used the 3M Marine Polish to no avail, even with an industrial buffer it still didn't shine as good as the creamy Skippy made it...

 

How long does the Skippy last and whats better Skippy or Jiff

From my experience I got a few weeks of being parked overnight and sitting outside during the day... Few days of rain, etc...

As far as brand, I have no idea... I just used whatever I had in my cubbard when I was trying it out on my seals, which it did work pretty decently on also...

The problem with peanut butter is it obviously goes on very thick... So you need to use a small amount at a time and massage it into and around a small area, and work in progressively larger and larger circles (wax on, wax off...)

The top is what it looks like oxidized, the bottom is after 1 quick rub down of peanut butter...
