Hatch switch?
I have a little switch in the handle of my hatch that opens it up electrically, even when the car is locked and turned off. Does anyone know how to disable/lock this, but leave it usable? Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, so I assume it locks and unlocks, but I don't know what triggers. Thanks guys.
I just recently discovered this, only to find out it doesn't work. Just my luck.
Sorry I have no idea what that has to do with you. I guess I have no idea. Bump for you.

on 98-01 integras, the cable system used to pop the hatch is ditched for an electronically controlled actuator (motor like a door lock)
if you want to try to fix it's not working properly, common problem, you can remove the far back plastic panel to your trunk area. then right under where the hatch is supposed to come down and close on, you will see a black motor type thing about the size of your hand. it is secured in by three 10mm bolts. you have to disconnect the open/close rod, then unplug the harness. open it up and lube the motor.
if you want to disable it, just unplug it and leave it. hope that helps.
oh yea, so how this thing works is like this. whenever you lock or unlock the doors via keyless entry or door un/lock switch, the switch on the hatch side is disabled, enable. This switch runs on electicity only; no cables. whenever you press the UNLOCK button on your keyless or door switch, this activates the power to the hatch switch. whenever you switch the hatch switch, electrical signals to the actuator below. the actuator is a motor and gears turn, pulling a rod. the rod is hooked up mechanically to the latch which opens up when the rod is pulled releasing your hatch.
so if it the actuator works, you would hit the switch on the top hatch, hear a "bzzz...pop" then you lift open hatch.
if the actuator is worn or doesnt work, you would hear a "slight bzzz (no pop)" and would not be able to open it.
to open it manually, you would have to put in the key, turn it allll the way until you hear the latch POP, then keep the key in that full turned position while opening the hatch.

thanks alot bro, well mine works, i just cant lock it, so i guess ill disable it. you said its controlled by the power locks, or just by the keyless entry? both of these dont work on my car... so if you know a common problem for why the power locks dont work..could someone throw that in there too? thanks a lot everyone.
its not fuses. there is an aftermarket security system spliced into stuff all over the car that i cant get to work. i think it may be bc the remote isnt synced, but i dont have a manual for it so i dont know how to. one problem leads to the next i guess...
