Hello everyone, I'm actually an accord guy, but I am doing this to help my friend.
Last weekend, me and him went look at a 96 civic coupe HX auto with 118k miles, with the 1.6L engine. There was a weird noise when shifting from D to R or R to D. The current owner told me that that was normal because the HX has a completely different transmission from other civics.... he said is a "rubber band" tranny.... and I never heard of that before.
Anyway, I did a search and found nothing about hx models... so can someone give me the "goods" and "lows" of this civic model.
Thanks in advance!!!

HX means it has a cvt, "continuously variable transmission" instead of a conventional transmission with gears.http://auto.howstuffworks.com/cvt.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C...ssion
the car never shifts, rather, it adjusts the transmission continuously to respond to cruising speed, demands for power, fuel economy, etc.

What is it you want to know? It's got a true wideband O2 sensor which costs a left nut to replace. It has VTEC-E (D16Y5), a CVT and gets good gas mileage.

I have a 96 hx w/ CVT. the tranny's in these cars are known to go bad. Many of them shudder when moving from a dead stop. Mine has been doing it since I bought it, Dealer said it was the "start clutch" part was $300, labor was $500. So I bought everything to convert it to manual
