IM GETTING A SWAP INTO MY 99 EJ8 AND IM PUTTING A B16 OBD 1. I WAS WONDERING IF THAT WAS A GOOD SWAP OF WAS I BETTER OFF PUTTING A OBD2. I HAD TO GET A JUMPER HARNESS AND IM SCARED THAT IT WILL expletive UP LATER ON. IM NEW TO THIS SWAP THING. ANT COMMENTS?
If you go OBD1 you wont pass smog since you are in Cali. If you save up and get an OBD2 B16B or a OBD2 GSR swap you could take it to the ref and get it BAR'D as long as the motor is the same year or newer as your car. I have a 2nd Gen B16 in my EK and I'm pretty happy with it, and I have'nt had any problems with the jumper harness or anything. It just depends if you care about passing smog and how much money you want to spend.
It just depends and if you do go OBD2 the motor has to be from the same year car as yours or newer. But go here they have pretty decent prices on motors.

b16b was not offered here(us) so it wont pass bar, if your worried about bar then you need a b16a2.

I heard that it would because B16A's were not offered here either unless it is in the 99-00 Si but I know people who have JDM B16's in their cars and they passed BAR.

The car is OBD-II so they have to scan it, and can't b/c it's OBD-I...in short, I would say no...unless they make an OBD-I to OBD-II conversion harness...which I don't know if they do :-?????
You can probably get away if you run an OBD-II ECU with your stock harness...but how ur gonna get the OBD-II ECU to work with the OBD-I engine I'm not sure.
I'm not positive about this but may wanna look into using the 99/00 Si ECU (B16 OBD-II) and running that with ur OBD-II harness and ur OBD-I engine...should be fine, just gonna have to loop the knock sensor so it doesn't throw the code...or install it...but that's your call..
Yeah this one's gonna be a bit of a Pain in the as...

Ok yea I wasnt 100% sure about the B16B. I knew the B16a's came in Del Sol's I just forgot to mention that. thanks for clearing the B16B thing up though. Now I know for sure.
