crank shift
i never heard of a cs breakin...maybe is just a bearing or a bet rod.....ur most likley gunna need the whole bottom end worked or replaced. at shop id say 2g's for labor plus parts
That'd be the first broken crank I've seen as well.....chances are there is some other problem that the guy doesnt know what is/how to fix so he threw that out there. It could be fixed for a few hundred $$$ or a couple grand, depending on whats wrong and where you take it to be fixed.
ah alright, so i should probably stay away from it.. or would it worth it to haggle down to ~2k ish and fix it? it's has about 132XXX miles, and everything else seems to be in good condition, but then again, like you guys said, there could be more problems with it that'll turn it into a money pit.. or i can take it to a mechanic for inspection?

A 95 GSR with a messed up engine could be a very nice opportunity to get a cheap car that you can modify or work on, depending on the price.

Depends on the condition of the body and whats actually wrong with it. You can buy an entire long block (basically the entire engine if you dont know what a LB is) for $1400 or less), so it might be a great deal or it might not be. It could be that the shop the guy took it to said it had a broken crank in order to scare him and overcharge him, when really all thats wrong with it is a bad starter. It really depends on whether you can do the work yourself or if you have to have a shop do it for you. I would think $1500-2000 would be a fair price though.
yeah, he has the car selling for 2500, which i might try to ask him to lower if i decide to go see the car
by the way, how would it be possible (if possible) for a cs to break since you guys are saying that you've never seen one break before? (sorry, i'm a noob when it comes to cars)

I've seen/had an engine that broke 2 rods, then kept turning and both rods punched holes in the side of the block without breaking the crankshaft. The stock crank holds as much power as anybody has ever thrown at it....plus in the situation that I just named, it probably has the most stress/irregular force that one will ever experience....thus, its very very unlikely. However, its possible (not likely, but possible) that he tried to shave it or something and damaged it in the process and then tried to run it. Thus, its 99.95% not a broken crank.
