Default Getting "Communication Error" with a scanner after swap...

Just swapped in an OBD2 b16 into my 96 hatch. The car is cranking but it wont start. We tried hooking my friends scanner up to the ecu to check the codes but its saying "Communication Error". Any ideas why?

Are you using a 96-98 engine harness and an ECU adapter? If not, thats your problem, as the US P2T ecu only came in the 99-00 Civic Si and the ecu wiring is different between the 96-98 and the 99-00 cars.
