VTEC Question
I have a 96 EK hatch with a second gen B16. The question I have is that my vtec is engaging late. I just noticed this after I switched out my autometer tach for an EX cluster. When I had the autometer tach in vtec would kick in at 5500 rpm, which i was told it was supposed to kick in at. Well when I changed the tach out for the EX cluster I noticed that vtec wouldn kick in until abour 6k rpm. I thought maybe the tach was off calibration, so I happened to come across an Si cluster, so I put that in, and the same thing vtec engages at 6k. I was wondering what would cause this? Oil and coolant levels are perfect so im not sure what it could be and the ECU is stock, P30. Thanks in advance for the help.

it's suppose to kick in at about 5800 rpm.
most tachs are not accurate or at least your eyes cannot tell the difference since the rpms climb fast. my tach is off about 400 rpms but only in the mid rpm rangees. at low and high rpm it's dead on.

Yea thats what I noticed after I put the cluster in my car and pulled the autometer tach out. I was told it was supposed to engage at 5500 but as soon as I switched the cluster in I noticed that it was 5800 rpm. So I guess this is normal, thanks again for the help.
