VTEC engagement point???
Hey everybody,
I did a search on past and presant VTEC engagement points but didn't find anything that sais weather or not different cars have different points????
My buddy has a 2001 and is saying his VTEC kicks in around 6100 RPM, can this be true? I have a 99 that is at 5700 and he is worried something might be wrong with his ECU. Can anyone help me with this?

Re: VTEC engagement point??? (DutchITR1689)
VTEC engage a little bit before 6K rpm on mine !
Why do you say the tach is off ?
Does Honda put a non efficient tach on its sports car ?

yes the tach is off. I believe it is not by much. Mine is 200rpm off. I heard that not just Integra models are off but a few other honda models as well. Can anyone confirm this?

Re: VTEC engagement point??? (96 SOHC VTEC)
So what you guys are saying is that each car "shows" a different engagement point, but in reality they are all at 5700 RPM? Or is it that some of the cars have tacs that are not correctly callibrated and need to be?
If this is the case, can the dealership fix this so that the tach shows 5700????

Re: VTEC engagement point??? (vadeR)
5700rpms is when the factory ECU engages VTEC. If you have an intake (or maybe stock, i dont know), you don't hear the VTEC until ~6000rpms, hence the discrepency.

Watch the road, not the tach.

Re: VTEC engagement point??? (vadeR)
they did answer the ?
The tach is off, it's not something they did on purpose, nor can they fix. You will see other devices, such as a VAFC or Fields VTEC controller, that accurately show the RPM b/c they tap into the ECU directly.

Re: VTEC engagement point??? (Jason)
What they did do on purpose is making the error in the upper range rather than lower range. So, the fact that it's off is due to the manufacturing error but they made it so that it is always indicating more than real and never indicating less than real. Just like the speedo!!!!
