Is my tach off?
Ok so I just bought a 93 civic hatchback cx(base model). It didnt come with a factory tach in the guage cluster so the kid that had it before me but a aftermarket tach in which look ugly, so my buddy had an extra gauge cluster and we put it in. Now it is an automatic cluster but everything works fine. But on my old tach v-tec would engage around 5900rpms and now its more like 6100rpms. So is this tach or was the old tach off by 200 rpms? And also doesn't that seem really late for vtec to engage. Its a 2nd generation b16A with a gsr trans and I believe the kid said it was P3 everything. Like p3 ecu and all that but im not sure. Any help would be appriciated thank you.

Re: Is my tach off?
Maybe for other makes, but Honda OE tachometers (usually Nippon Denso or Nippon Seiki) are rarely off by that much. None of the factory tachs in any of the various late model Hondas I've owned have been off by more than 100 RPM at any point.
Odds are that someone was screwing around with the gauge needles . . .
A 2nd-gen JDM B16A should engage VTEC at 5800 RPM; I'm not sure if this varies between a P30 and an OBD-1 PR3. USDM B16As engage VTEC at 5600 RPM.
