Default weird flashing check engine light, harness not jumped EM1

car had a check engine light on ( solid ) for the catalyst malfunction.
i figured it was just the secondary O2. car runs normal with no problem.
so im driving it on the highway in the rain, and it flashes on and off a few times. then goes back to solid CEL like normal. so by the time i get home. it turns itself off. and there is no CEL.
actin real weird. was just wondering if anyone has seen / encountered anything like this. i just never seen a CEL flash on and off. then go away outta nowhere. seems a little odd to me.

and when it was flasing on and off it wasnt flasing a flash code as if the harness was jumped. it was just a slow flashing, like a blinker. hahaa.

up for some info or somethin

Flashing cel means pull the expletive over.

It means something's going very wrong.

i did not know this. haha. well, whatever was going very wrong didnt seem to be much. the car runs normal.

any ideas on where to start then ? bc i havent the slightest. besides get a new secondary O2. would not havin a secondary make the ECU freak though ? i wouldnt imagine that it would.

no it doesnt. It flashes when there is an emission related problem that would directly effect emissions

ok, that seems a little more likely. can anyone else confirm this ? never had an OBD2 car, or anything that i had to worry about emission codes. car is still 100% stock that why i didnt think it would be anything major, car still runs fine. but now the check engine light has went away.

i assume it will come back on tommorow when i drive it.
but i was just wondering i never seen a flashing CEL before. haha. had me weirded out.

Generally when you go into an emmisions related failure, your car goes into limp. And you can feel it. Maybe his is wierd, but last time my cel flashed, I dropped into limp, and my car felt like I was dragging a boulder up a ski slope.

im also going from driving a mildly buile b18C in my old integra to a stock B16 in a big Ek.
so the car from the start felt slower than **** to me. ive only owned the car a few weeks. havent had alot of time to mess with it.
last owner said it threw code for secondary o2, i checked it , it does. didnt think it was a major issue.
apparently i was wrong ???

bedtime bump.

hopefully someone can confirm that this is NOT a major problem to where i SHOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT be driving the Si.

will driving the car in limp mode as it is in hurt it ? i figure thats why there is a limp mode. right ?

hey funny story. i just bought my em1 3 months ago. it had a seized oil ring on the third cylinder and was burning oil. the dealership did the rings on it (free of charge). one day it was cold and i was driving on the highway about 3 days after picking it up. i got a flashing CEL. it went away for 2 mins. flashed again. went off. 2 months later it has never come on since. when they put my motor back in they broke a header bolth and used some sealer when they put it back together. i think that got really hot and made my o2 senser do a wtf and threw my CEL. but yeah, my car was fine....i woudln't worry 2 much about it but thats just me

When the cel light flashes it means the fault is happening at that moment.

Yeah, but what was posted is the be all end all for information concerning the condition. Prior to HondaPartsHero, there was only speculative information provided. Was in line but easily disputable. HondaPartsHero has fully put the matter to bed for any all all future searchers with irrefutable information.
