I reset this thread a bit. Your question is apparently not clear.
What do you mean by the CEL goes away when you turn off the car? The computer will store the fault code, but will not reilluminate the CEL until the fault occurs again. Have you tried to pull the CEL with the link provided above? If so, what was the result?

when driving sometimes the CEL comes up. when i turn off the car (in order to pull to code) the CEL wont blink. if i unplug the jumper and start the car or set to the "ON" position the CEL is gone. hence resetting by itself.
i dont know how i can be more clear

If many people misinterpret what you wrote the exact same way, the fault lies in how you wrote it. The word "resetting" could mean that the light simply turns off or you cannot pull the codes.
Go to your local auto parts and have them try to pull the codes with the code reader. They should do this for free. If they cannot pull the codes, you could have a memory power issue with your ECU or simply a bad ECU.

What year is the car? if it's obd-1 then yes it will turn off, but you will still be able to get the code. My gs-r has the same problem but i still can get my o2 sensor code. if it's obd-2 then you should still have a pending code in the ecu.
