Default Not Cool

A week or so ago I was noticing that I was having problems shifting into third gear. I would put it in third, think its in, release clutch, and hear that awful grinding noise...well after a few days of that, I decided to take it in. Low and behold my third and fourth gear sychronizers were fudged. They had to order a gear set for the car, take out the tranny, install the gear sets and put the tranny back. The car only has 6k on the odometer. THe service rep said this was a factory eff up, and nothing that I did (which I already knew, b/c I've never missed a shift in it).

They also found that all my brake lights were not working. They had to replace the brake light switch.

They also found the squeak that was coming from my car on take off. It was coming from the exhaust manifold. They changed the gasket and the spring bolts.

I hope to god this is not a sign of things to come for this car. Worse, I had to driving a freaking KIA rental for a week while they fixed the car. I hate KIA's!

If you have any of these problems (preferably the shifting and squeak) then thats more than likely your problem.

Not to hurt anyones feelings, but these new civics are going to have alot of problems compared to previous years. I personally have alredy put in a shortblock, a cylinder head, numerous struts, wheel berings, etc. I think Honda has hired GM to build these new civics. I have a hard time working on something that I dont believe in, time to look for another occupation.....

I guess taking speed bumps at 35 mph is considered beating it....the alignment was already out when I got it.

Only 35mph?

See which breaks first the Kia, or your new Honda...oh.

I thought rentals from the dealer were supposed to be comparable to the car you bring in. If I brought in my Si and they gave me a POS Kia, I'd definitly bitch.

Thank you for saying this. I don't own one, and from the outside looking in, I've been having reservations about buying one!! I was 100% sold on an Si Sedan but I don't think I'll be doing that anymore.

Type X,

The best warranty is the one you never use. All cars do have issues, but the new Civics appear to be sub-par for sure. I won't be buying one unless I hear the '07s are flawless between now and next March/April.

It bothers me that I feel I can buy a used Honda and be happier with it and have less problems than a new Civic! I really, really wanted one, but lately I'm leaning towards an Ek Sedan with low miles now.

No such thing as a flawless car or a warranty you never use.
Maybe you'll never bring it in for the recommended TSB's or recalls but I dont think its ever happened

People need to get off the Honda High Horse in terms of super vehicles. I'm a honda fanboi myself BUT none of my 5 brand new hondas or my families 3 brand new hondas have ever had a "catastrophic" or powertrain problem, and i beat my cars daily and from mile 1.

Little things I can deal with...but.the car is mass produced and manufactured.

Maybe I just have a slightly different opinion due to my occupation. I am a quality engineer for an automotive supplier.

I'll start my own thread later on, rather than derailing this one.

You should keep in mind the people here are typically pickier or better educated about their vehicles than the typical buyer and will notice these problems easier. My car has had no major issues at all, sure i have nit picked some crap but so far its been a solid car.

That what my dad though when he took his $40,000 Ford F150 for warranty work they gave him a crappy Focus so he complain about did and they showed him the fine print that the rental is complementary but not sure with honda.

My family is a Honda family as well. Mainly, CRV's. I am the only one who has been running Civics. They have never had an major issue with anything. Just normal wear and tear items.

I'm going to have to go with type-x on this one. Honda's in general are great. We have 3 in the driveway right now. As with any totally new design there will be flaws. All the cars I've driven have never had any major mechanical problem. I beat the crap out of my Accord and didn't maintain it like I should have and it never died on me.
Also, you're looking around a honda specific website. Of course it's going to seem like there are a bunch of problems but that's just because you're reading about everyone's specific problems. If you checked out any other tech sites, for other manufacturers, you'd probably find the same thing if not more.
