Default Poor Throttle Response on a 90 Si - How do I solve?

Hey Guys,

I just finished tuning up my 90 Si (112k), and I noticed that when the car is cold... the car seems to run really well. But as the temperature guage gets to the normal area, the throttle response dies. If I try to pull off in 1st.. I have to rev the engine a little to build RPMs and then drop the clutch??? I could FLOOR the accelerator and the car goes nowhere, like I didnt event hit the gas. The engine is completely stock, airbox and all.

I put in new axles, clutch, cap&rotor, plugs&wires, valve cover gasket, fuel filter. Im not sure what other maintenance must be done to get this car fully operational.

Is there some type of sensor that may be fuqqed up? Im thinkin it might be a fuel delivery problem such as clogged injectors? Has anyone experienced this yet? I dont wanna waste time dumping fuel injector cleaner after fuel injector cleaner in to the gas tank if it not gonna solve anything as I have tried two bottles already.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Put the old cap/rotor/plug wires back on and see what happens.

Did your problem start before or after you did all this work?

Guys... the car was sluggish to begin with. I did notice that there was a small bit of white smoke coming from the exhaust.. I think maybe i have to re-ring this 1.6. Could it possibly be loss of compression that causing this hestiation? so after I rev the engine a few times it builds up compression and runs fine?

What did you set your timing at when you replaced the cap and rotor??? im thinking it could be off, and your not firing at the rigth time.....meaning your only running strong on like 2 cylinders.

Comp. rings might have somthign to do with it, my oil rings are going....ive noticed some blow by but it hasnt harmed my acceleration at all???

You prob. just want to recheck everything that you tuned, reseting the ECU might do the trick to.

Yep, check the timing. Also, when the timing belt was replaced, it could have been set up one tooth off, so you might want to check that out too. White smoke would indicate moisture, either normal from a cold engine, or coolant from a leaking head gasket. If you're not losing coolant, then it's not leaking. So don't worry about it.

check timing and proper firing order on the dizzy cap. if you have 2 wires flipped it'll run like dog ****.

yeah, if the belt doesnt sit on the teeth right it will run a couple degrees off....not good....tortex was right about the plug wires too....I did that to my friends car when we replaced his dist. and we couldnt get it to turn over....switched um and it fired up!

Fellas, I didnt touch the timing... It is as I bought it.. I will have that checked out this weekend. Can I run this 1.6 without the timing belt cover? I will have the timing checked out.

Why would I be messing with the Timing if I changed a distributor cap and Rotor? I never had to touch that stuff in the past with previous cars. Oh well, this is my first honda

changing the rotor and cap...I assume you took off the entire dist. well....when taking that off....and putting back on you can slide the distributor on the top bolt back and forth to a certain degree and change the timing of the spark, the belt keeps it insync with the cams so that you get the right spark at the right time you need it.
