misfire
has anyone ever had a coil just stop working on them? i have never had a vehicle with distributorless ignition before and on the way to work this morning the car started misfiring. when i pulled the plugs out to check them, one of them was still wet which means the coil is not firing? i have to wait until monday or tuesday for the replacement part, so i was just wondering if anyone else has gone through anything like this before?
thanks

the plug that was wet was the one closest to the firewall. i took that coil and switched it to the front one for easier access to it. i started the car. car runs rough, still misfiring. i inplug the first coil and there is absolutely no change in the way the car is running. if the coil was good and i now had two cyliders misfiring cause i unplugged one and had a bad spark plug (like you are saying it could just be the plug) the car would have pretty much shut off or it would have at least run a lot worse had i only been running on the two middle cylinders. i am pretty sure it is the coil. either way i have a set of plugs and a couple coils on order so i can change them. just wondering if anyone else has run into something like this. no warning signs. just suddenly starts misfiring.

Just an fyi, I have seen and heard of a coil going bad on s2000s, although it's very rare.

It's not normal to have plugs soaked with fuel while the engine is running. Sounds like you have a problem.

well, then i have one of those rare things. when i got the replacement coil in and the new plugs today i pulled the codes again on the computer. i had switched the coil i suspected to be bad to the front cylinder, which should be #1. i had to drive my car home from work sat, which was only like 2 miles, so the check engine light was back on. today when i pulled the codes it specified cylinder 1 misfire. the plugs definately needed to be changed, so those were changed and i changed out the coil and the car runs perfectly smooth now. no problems. actually, it sounds better than before. i think those plugs were overdue.

was it possible that the plug(s) were bad and not the coilpack?
