Default which is better? b16 head or gsr head?

i have a b16 longblock and a type r block and a gsr head lying around. and the thing is that i don't know if i should take the head off the b16 and slap it onto the type r or should i slap the gsr head onto the type r? the gsr has been ported and polished and plus its chambers has been opened and all it needs is a valve train. or should i spend the extra money on the b16 head and slap it onto the type r block??

i would put the gsr head on the type r block.. it has a smaller combustion chamber so it will yeild high compression than the b16

b16 head has the same blueprints as the type-r head. So it will yield higher compression. Poorman's type-r = gsr block and b16 head with type r or modded internals.

GSR HEAD on the ITR block

It raises the compression from 10.6 to 10.8 with 1797 cc.

vs. the 10.6 that would yield from the ITR/B16 head

Wrong. Pentroof combustion chambers on the P72 casting yield slightly higher compression then then domed ones found in the PR3 castings.

but i had the chambers in the gsr head opened for better flow. wouldn't that lower the compression a bit? i really want the compression to be as high as can be with the stock oem block.

i thought usdm type r cpr is 11:1?

if you had it ported they just ported the intake runners not the combustion chambers it will not effect compression

intake runners definitely are ported and mildly polished, but combustion chambers definitely are opened too.

usdm R = 10.80:1
jdm R = 11.32:1
