GSR block but which head???
I got a good deal on a GSR block and im trying to figure the best head for it. Should i stick with the stock GSR head or should i go with a B16 head. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: GSR block but which head??? (EJ8VTEC)
The gsr head is a good head from the get go, but if i had a gsr block and wanted to slap a head on it it wouldnt be a gsr head.
Th b16 and type r heads are the same casting, meaning the blueprints are the same, the only difference was the valvetrain. If your rebuilding the head with a new valvetrain and cams go with a b16 head, if your gonna leave it like it is go with a type r head.

Its just a suggestion just as my poorman's R comment is just a suggestion.
Because with GSR pistons, the compression is only around 10.6-7 I believe
Even lower if the block/pistons are USDM

Re: GSR block but which head??? (SkoundrelUSA)
My god... that response was so fast and helpful, i posted the same question yesterday on HAN and i still have no response. so the general idea that im getting is to go with the b16 type r head with the ITR pistons. any idea what kind of power output i would get? also would you guys change your mind if i said i wanted to boost the motor as well. I was under the impression that you dont want the high compression pistons if your going to be boosting. Again thanks alot for the help.

Re: GSR block but which head??? (rock~1)
you could do a type r head, but honestly id go with a b16 head and save the extra money on the itr pistons and rings + labor if your not going to be doing it yourself.
Now if you do want to boost the motor your going to want to keep the compression somewhere around 8.5/9.5 to 1 depending on how your building the motor.
imho id build an all motor poor mans r and get used to the power it amkes, youd be surprised at what an all motor b series will do. drive that for a while, get used to it, then boost it.

Re: (Tuesdaynightfever)
good stuff guys, thanks again for all the quick responses. one more question before i go and spend all my hard earned money. what trans should i do, ive read that the GSR is pretty good but i figure if im going to spend the money i may as well get the itr trans because of the lsd and the final drive (4.78?). whats the best place to buy the trans, off the FS forums or should i buy it from a store for the sake of getting somthing low milage. thanks

Re: (i heart honda)
my current goal is to beat my buddies 04 GTO with 400hp and 407tq on the quarter mile not really sure how feasable that is but he only runs low 13's so i think i can. anyway, ive seen trannies go for like 1200 bucks for an itr which i think is expensive but maybe not. it seems that lsd's from quaffe go for like 800 so maybe it is a good deal for the itr.

Re: (rock~1)
you can get a jdm ys1 with an lsd for $500.
you can build an all motor b series that will run hgih to mid 12's for pretty cheap bro. whata re you putting this motor into?

You're almost completely right. The are the same casting, and the valvetrain is different, but the head is factory ported, and of course, the cams are much more aggressive.
Me, I'd go with an ITR head personally. As far as transmissions, it really depends on your budget, and/or skill

Re: (black_EM1)
Everything is going into my little del sol s. money isnt much of an issue because im doing it over time. the only reason im not just jumping on the itr is because i kinda like getting 33 mpg. i know that will drop with the new motor but im still thinking the gsr (sorry dont know all the trans codes yet) and a lsd. so many choices. does anyone know a site or post that explains the trans codes and there ratios?
