Default OVERHEATING PROBLEM!!

Start off i have a blown head gasket but the car is still driving. My radiator fan doesn't kick on at all when driving but when i turn it off and turn back on without running the engine the fan kciks on for 10 secs if am lucky. The car only overheats when i go long distances on the highway. Today i put in a new thermostat to see if that will help the fan. I guess i insall it right cuz i foloow all the instructions but when i drive my temperature guage keep going over half way and then goes down and back up. I dont know what to do. I already have a head gasket i just want to fix the fan problem before i put it in and the smam e thing happens again

Check this thread out and see if it helps. Before the switch, I would definitetly replace the head gasket and see if that fixes it.

It could be a few things. Try to change out your thermoswitch, it's not much of a switch but you know what i mean. The switch is the part thats gonna kick your fan on. Is the fan wired up from factory or has it been hacked up? The head gasket is helping the problem definately, I myself have a blown headgasket but my car doesnt over heat that fast. So thats not completely the problem. The only other thought i could help you with is that maybe it's just that there are air bibbles in you coolent system. That would make your temp. rise and fall like you were saying. Good luck, i hope i helped you out some!

listen man! are u doing the repairs yourself? and is that why your hesistant?
Are you losing coolant?or water which ever you use. Are you driving alot? your fan helps to cool but its not the main reason why it is overheating. Is it overheating extremly? did changing the thermostat help at all? when is the last time you had a coolant flush?
