Default back for more "no start"great untill this afternoon when help

You guys were such a great help to me this summer with my daughters 92 civic, which had a bad main relay connection. Well now I need your help again.
The car has been running great untill this evening when it would turn over fine but refuse to start. It's been quite cool and I can smell gas but it will not fire. My daughter is waiting for that hero moment when I fix it . Hope you can help.

Thanks,
Dave

My daughters Civic did that all of a sudden last month. I checked for spark and had it so I ended up taking the rotor out of the dizzy and cleaning it with a wire brush as well as inside the dizzy cap and tried it and it started. So afterwards I purchased a new cap and rotor and all is well.
I hope this helps & good luck.

What he said.

when a motor turns over, but doesn't fire, you either are not getting fuel, or you are not getting spark.

Just check everything out, make sure you are getting both first and foremost.

I should also have said that this was the first frosty night we've had this season so maybe a moisture problem ?

It is possible, but not first on the list.

If it is though, there is a seal problem.

I have spark and the fuel pump is operating. The coil is new and I'm at a dead end. Any more thoughts?

Just because your fuel pump is working, doesn't always mean you are getting fuel to your cylinders.

You need to check and see if you are getting fuel first of all. Because without that, obviously there will no starting the engine.

YOu are already getting spark, so leave that alone.

If you are getting spark and the coil was just replaced then I would check fuel pressure and compression of the motor. If both of those check out ok could it possibly be bad gas? or the timing could have gotten knocked off somehow. Good luck!

Thanks for the ideas everyone. The fact it ran great one day and would not start the next really has me puzzled. Maybe it's that ralay again?

Negative. If it was, the car would not even crank, and you definately would not get spark.

this is incorrect you can have a bad relay and the car will just keep cranking and cranking..or maybe you ment turn over as in start??
but since you replaced it already it will not be the problem. since you have fuel, and since you have a new coil.

the onlyother part you need to check is the distributor "ignitor" if you open up the distributor cap you will see the coil to the right, now go to the left side and you will see 3-4 wires that connect into a square thing.. that is your ignitor..

ignitors go bad just as weird as do relays...

you can use any 92-01 civic or integra ignitor they are all the same...

i told you what the problem was last time... lets see if im correct this time around.. the ignitor , let us know.

as far as fuel pressure a car will still turn on with low fuel pressure and compress, it just will not run smoothly, but it will start the car up...

Great to have your help.

Why are you going to replace your ignitor, when you already have spark? It does not make sense to me.

yea see if you can get one from a friends car if possible, i cant remember how much a new costs but i think its pretty expensive brand new for such a small part. also try cleaning the contacts aswell.

if you have spark then neither your coil or the ignitor is the culprit. first pull the plug wires out and check the spark plugs for any oil on top where the wire plugs onto. reason being, if you have spark but its not getting to the plug, due to slow oil buildup in the chamber =no start i would check for fuel at the injectors just to be sure.. could be a clogged fuel filter..just rule out the little things before we look at jumped timing.. good luck to getting your daughters car running one more thing,,check all fuses just to be sure, these cars have a problem with the harness rubbing on the back intake manifold bracket and shorting wires out..

I hope you guys don't give up on me cause I'm at the end of the line with this thing: Fuel pump ok, fuel filter ok, I have spark to the plugs, I have new coil and new main relay. It went from running great to not starting, overnight??
Thanks for you help

It must be another relay or sensor connected to the injectors. Any ideas?

How did you check to see if you have spark.

Do you have spark on all four cylinders?
Do you have fuel to all four cylinders?
are you sure that you put the plug wires back in the right order?

Tell us exactly what you have done

Thanks Dave, I pulled a plug and hooked it to the wire and had my wife try and start the engine. Looks like good spark. Also, the plugs where a little wet with fuel when i pulled them out.
