Is there anything I must do to get the obd1 distributor to go onto the obd2 motor d16y8? I'm converting the motor to obd1 and have all the accessories-BEfore I install the distributor..will it bolt right up to the motor? Do I have to cut a legg? etc..

Why not just use a jumper harness? Anyway youll need to rewire the CPS up to the new dist. along with the rewiring or use of a obd1 alt.

First of all, which obd1 dizzy are you using? If it's from a z6, z1, or d15b, the housing is not going to match up with the head. You're either going to have to do a lot of filing or get a new distributor.

 

i have the alternator working properly..everything is rewired-its done professionally.

i'm using a distributor from a 95 ex. What the hell do you mean filling? obd1 vtec distributors are all the same..if anything i'm going to have to cut one of the legs off..

filing, not filling...as in using a rat-tail file and removing material from the housing.

The housing on a z6 dizzy will not line up with a y8 head - you will have to do some modifications. You will most likely not use a leg, like you said, but you may have to file one of the others for it to fit properly.

Make sure it's sturdy when you use it, or you'll end up with a broken camshaft...

What i would do instead of destorying a good dist. housing i would gut out the obd2 dist and put all the obd1 stuff in it down to the shaft. Alot easier.

 

thats exactly what im doing. i have an obd2 on it already. i'll be placing the other parts into it.

 

if i heard right you can use the 92-95 dx dizzy on the y8 head

It will bolt up with no problems, if that's what you mean. But you're still mixing an obd1 part and an obd2 wiring harness. That isn't hard to correct for, though.


What he's doing now will work fine, and it's not nearly as risky as what I did to mine (2 hours with a rat-tail file).

 

oh my bad...i didnt fully read into it...yeah the conversion harness would be the easiest but all youhave to do is re pin the 2 wires for the coil if im not mistaken again...obd1 has them in 2 plugs where as the odb2 has it in 1 plug..hope this helps
