im having this problem with the temp gauge. it jumps all around, then just flops and dies on cold, then if i accelerate it'll jump up to halfway stay there then flop and die again. are bumps knocking loose a connection?
It definitely has something to do with the distributor. Tach leads directly into your distributor. One of the components is or will fail soon.

I will throw in an 80% ignitor and a 20% on the coil, professionally I would say change them both but your pocket book may say otherwise.
A bad ignitor or a bad coil can drag the new single part down that you just replace, its been that way for years.
