I use a Genuine Honda oil filter i was wondering if there is one better than this, or this is good enough?

 

There are 2 types of Honda Filters, one is made by Honneywell in the USA and the other is made by Filtertec in Canada. You can tell by the last 3 of the part number. They are both good but we have better oil pressure with the one made by Filtertec.

The last 3 of the part number is
Honneywell -A01
Filtertech - A02

The A02 is better.

We only use the oem filters on the race car.

 

Honda used to use Japan-sourced filters for Civic filters, but when the dollar plummeted in value they switched to NA-sourced filters. Depending on who you talk to, the new filters are as good or inferior to the old - the switch physically shrunk the filters by about a third.

The S2000 OEM filter was (last time I heard) still Japan-sourced, still the old size, and compatible with all 4-cylinder Hondas. But, of course, it costs more than the NA-sourced Civic filter.

You can go aftermarket and get a micron filter, like the Mobil-1 or Purolator PureOne filters. Though Mobil-1s are even more expensive than Honda's S2000 filters (last time I checked at least).

 

don't know if you have NAPA in your neck of the woods, but napa has a new filter for that they claim to be better than any other, might check it out. I bought one and am using it this go around. Don't notice any difference really, but you might have a different opinion. It supposedly helps with recirculation or something. I don't know, but my best friends dad is a napa manager so I tried one.

 

can't go wrong with OEM...

 

HAMP is what Honda uses on all the OEM type Rs. They are slightly higher pressure and smaller in size. I bought 3 for $12 from ICB.

I use NAPA gold/WIX filters with great results. I get them for about $4.15 each versus the $7 or so retail in the NAPA stores. Metal endcaps on the filter media, thick metal can for higher burst strength, metal center tube, a silicone ADBV (anti drain back valve--keeps oil in the filter for less dry starts. silicone is more resilient than your standard nitrile rubber), and a by-pass valve mounted on the filter thread end.

OEM isnt always the best. Cut open a few Mobil 1 filters, purolator PL14459, napa/wix 51334/1334, and chose what you like. If you want a bigger filter than the wix/napa 1334/51334 than go with the 1344/51344, it slightly longer to hold more oil.

Some are better constructed than others. FRAM for example uses carboard endcaps on the media (for most of their filters), and uses a standard rubber nitrile ADBV (which hardens over time; again on most of their filters), and a plastic non-springed 'button style' bypass valve. The X2 has metal end caps, and a silicone ADBV, but thats about $10, why not spend less than half and get a superior contstructed filter from napa gold/wix?

what you're using is good, you can always go with hamp.

 

i use a K&N Filter, #1004 and have noticed higher oil pressure then anything else i've used, although i've never used OEM on my current car, it's only been through 2 oil changes. but on my EG i used both and i just like the K&N better. given the ungodly location of the filter, the K&N's 1" nut makes taking it off a snap.

Yeah, that 1" nut is the sh*t lol...I use k&n too. Don't buy them from an autostore though...you can find them online for like 7-9$...I am stocked up for a while

 

OEM

 

OEM = FRAM. if you get the honeywell made filter, made in USA, you're getting a fram filter. Almost the same as the canadian filter. So save your money and buy fram if you're getting honda filters, unless of course you're lucky enough to be getting the Japanese-made filter.

yeah. OEM is best. I plan on going with HAMP from now on.

Actually it is Filtech and the A01's are FILTECH and the A02's are HONEYWELL.

I run the S2000 filter on my B18C1 made by TOYO ROKI.
