Looking at buying 96 with B16A2 swap *bought it!!*
Well I totaled my poor 95 EX Coupe and I'm looking at a 96 Hatch with a B16A2 swap for $4000. We're (as in my dad and I) trying to talk them down to $3500 so we can have some cash to fix some problems with the car. They're just trying to get rid of the thing. This crap is besides the point.
The 99-00 Computer in it is throwing a Check engine code for something the car doesn't even have. I was told to correct the problem, I would have to get a Del Sol VTEC computer. Supposedly it'd be $700 to get one but I'd like to find a cheaper way around this. I'd appreciate any help in my situation.
We are short on cash but dang Hondas are so sparse where I am or at least good ones are so this car is pretty much my only choice for replacing my beloved coupe. Plus I'd be a retard let a hatch with a B16 to pass me by at that price. My mechanic (honda specialist and enthusiast) told us it's in perfect running order and my brother (an automotive genius too) also looked it over and he said it was good.
Also is there a place to look up replacement OEM side skirts besides eBay? I hate the little double stick tape ones that are on it now.
Thank you for any help.

You can most certainly get a ecu for less than 700$. Try the classified section here on honda-tech. Also- You could use an ECU from a 99-00 Civic Si also.

Re: Looking at buying 96 with B16A2 swap (TurboTagTeam)
Well it already has a 99-00 Si ECU. The mechanic says the Del Sol one is the one I need to get rid of that check engine light. I see a P30 ECU on ebay. Is that what I need?
Actually I really need to worry about this if and when I get the car cause if something better comes my way, say a 93 Prelude VTEC in great shape, then I'm getting it cause I really need a car that'll last me through college (I'm a freshman in college right now) or at least until I have enough money to fix, engine swap, or replace the car. I'm just being on my toes cause this 96 hatch seems to be it cause a bone stock 97 EX Coupe slipped through my fingers.
P.S. I'm sick of dash lights blazin'. My SRS light was shining for nearly a year (CD Player install incident) on my 95 but they deployed just fine. Now my glasses are a little weird.

the cel ur getting with the 99-00 si ecu is a code 91
its because the ecu is looking for a FTP Sensor which 99-00 Si's have & ur 96 hatch doesnt
theres a couple ways to fix this:
buy p30 OBD2a ECU
(DONT BID ON THE ONE ON EBAY ITS MINE!!!)
if u do that...
ur gonna need a obd2b-obd2a conversion harness
if there using the si wiring harness that is
this setup can be had for alot less than $700
or a Potentiometer

Re: (tha_badguy)
thanks for letting me know what the code is. I'm sure my mechanic can get me what I need for less. He knows the cheapest way around things cause he too tunes Hondas. You should see his EG coupe. it is wicked.
well I'm gettin the hatch (that perfect car didn't show up) but that check engine light is gonna have to wait cause the car is sitting too low (jackass that had it dropped so low the mechanic couldn't get it in the garage with out taking the bumper off). I have to get new springs to lift it up. I'm thinking H&R OE Sport Springs from King Motorsports. I'd like to get the sport springs out of my 95 but my brother has no clue how to get them out himslef so we are just ordering new ones. Plus the I need new side skirts cause those goofy ones it has, one isn't even on and the other is hanging by a thread. The hatch has a big gash in it. some one backed into it and took off. One tail light is cracked (and it's JDM too ) The front bumber still isn't on and needs to be properly reattached cause when it was on it wasn't on properly.

the cheapest way around it is to use a potentiometer
its like a couple bucks at radioshack
basically it fakes the ftp sensor signal sent to the ecu
i've done this & it has been working for over a year now without any problems
heres a link http://www.ff-squad.com/technet/code91.htm

Re: (tha_badguy)
Thank you. I've got the page bookmarked for future reference. I've already ordered the H&R springs. Hopefully they'll keep the car up off the ground. I ordered an AEM Short Ram Intake for it too. I suppose ordering the one for a 99-00 Si is alright since that's what the motor is out of and the two's engine bays are basically the same. That cold air that's in it now is crappy plus the mechanic said having a cold air can be an issue in wet weather (locking brakes can too. that's how my 95 got wrecked ) so instead of finding fixes, a new intake altogether works fine for me. These ricers out here are gonna see a green JDM streek fly by in the next week.
This bad boy has a ton of JDM stuff on it. I'll have to clean the lenses on the JDM headlights cause they are frickin brown nearly. The beautiful JDM tail lights are gonna have to be replaced cause one is damaged. Same reason the hatch is.
Thanks for the help.

The issue is that if you drive through a deep puddle, and the intake gets partially/fully submerged, you'll suck water up the intake. When the water hits your combustion chamber 1/4 second later, you'll be short one connecting rod. At that point you hope the pieces don't hit something expensive, like your head.
Personally, I have a cold air intake, have had it installed for ~7 years now, and haven't had any problems. But I don't make a habit of driving through deep puddles. The few times I do, I try to be clever about doing it.
I recently got stuck in a parking lot where the only way out was through a puddle that would've submerged my intake if I drove through it. I drove around the right edge of the puddle so the intake (on my right side) was kept well above the water line.
Though the lower your car's ride height is, the less your margin for error.

Re: (tha_badguy)
not yet, I won't have the car until Wednesday. Lost title and all. Thank god my mom works for the clerks office or else it'd take even longer.
Man I am so frickin anxious. Do you know how much it sucks to be 18 and have your parents drive you to work and college? What's worse is the bad luck PT Cruiser got nailed by a golf ball while my mom was driving and the dude's homeowner insurance is covering the repairs. I'll have to shuttle her around until that dent in the hood is fixed.
Again the cold air in it is crappy so an AEM short ram is perfect. The mechanic actually asked me to get the APC intake out of my 95 but it was pancaked in the wreck.

Re: (Techy)
a hacksaw will fix your cold air issue haha. just cut it. I did that with the AEM that I got for my car cuz it had a gaping hole in it lol. but I ended up getting the aem short ram anyways.

HOLY CRAP what a difference. Man this thing is wicked fast. It's like riding in m friends CRX HF witha ZC in it again. Only better cause this is my car. No pics yet. I did manage to get the bumper on........................with zip ties. They re holding good though. I had to use a zip tie on my right corner light on my 95. Man I'm gonna have fun with this thing.

Here's some pics. These still show it with some of the gay ricer crap that the previous owner had on it. We (my brother and I) hit up a junk yard and jacked some mirrors off a 99 or 00 hatch. We got the taillights too since that's apparently what's on my 96 (go figure). THey look much better than the 96-98 lights. We replaced the silver interior door handle trim (poorly painted silver) with normal trim from another 96-98 hatch and we also found the "trunk" platform that sits right at the winshield to hide what you have in your "trunk". it was missing from this car. We replaced the silver painted gauge cluster trim with normal trim. We also got the hatch off that same hatchback but unfortunately it was red and not the silver I had hoped for. Turns out the silver one I had been informed of was a 4 door LX. Ah well I can always paint it green before putting it on. If it were silver I would wait about painting it and go ahead and put it on. I just don't want the christmas them going on. I already have a red grille. We put the 97 Integra GS-R wheels on last night. This project is moving quick. I could have it finished for the most part in a month or 2 excluding a fresh coat of paint. I'm thinking silver or Horizon Gray Metallic.
I'll post pics of what it looks like with the normal stuff on when I get them. I haven't taken any yet.
