Default Noob Question ?

I just got my si last week plus i am learning how to drive stick on it. I would like to know when you shift you are supposed to let off the gas but 2 out of 5 shifts my foot is on it a little and it revs is this bad for the Tranny. I am learning so i am prone to make these type of mistakes also when i shift i hold the clutch and let it out smooth instead of just letting it fly back is this Riding the Clutch ? any feedback would be great.

You need to let off of the gas when you shift. The Si is a VERY easy car to learn how to drive a stick.

you are talking about revmatching when downshifting??? Basically this is when u gives the car a little gas to keep the rpms up while you have the clutch engaged. This will help will decleration as it will put less stress on the brakes. However, you can waste a lot more gas

lol thanks for the input but no when i shift say from 1st to 2cd my foot is on the gas a little when it should be off. The question was is it bad for the tranny and what is the worst thing that could be done to mess up the tranny.

If you mess up anything it'll be the clutch.

...why haven't you learned how to drive yet? I don't think it should take more than 2-3 days at most.

The other thing to keep in mind on the SI, is the SI has a rev hang when shifting gears, even after the factory reflash. Even after you take your foot off the gas, the RPM's will stay up while your shifting.

As for damage, I don't think you are damaging the tranny. It might be a little tough on the clutch but since the tranny is not enguaged, I don't think it's really effected. The engine has a rev limiter as well so I don't believe you run a risk of over-reving the engine either.

Just my thought.

Slamming a bat into your door doesnt hurt the tranny but you shouldn't do it

Yeah you definately should be good by now? I mean I just learned how to drive a stick today ( first day i had the car), and Im surprisingly good now . The clutch seems like its forgiving , I just don't find the acceleration that great
