Shifting without releasing gas?
Alright a friend of mine was tellin me to try shifting without letting go of the gas and said it'd keep the rev's up higher than letting go and shifting normally. I was pretty decent before and now i tried w/o releasing the gas and it seems to shift alot faster for some reason.
Can anyone tell me the pro's and con's of shifting like this?

Sometimes when i cruise im soft on the gas so i dont need to take my foot off. But while your racing better hope your quick at shifting or youll hit that rev. limiter.

just take your foot off the gas...if you can shift very fast then i dont see how it would make a difference

Isnt shifting without releasing the gas called powershifting. I know a couple people that do this but they have some pretty well built cars and go through clutches like nothing.

that's not double clutching. double clutching for example is when you go from 3rd into neutral then from neutral into 4th

So thats how you shift a manual.....
Go ahead shift without letting off the gas....you personally can let us know how long it takes for your clutch to go...

its called open throttle shifting actually and ya you can use it using the hondata but NOT w/ the launch control, instead w/ their thing that limits the rev to about 6grand so you dont bounce off the limiter at the top of the gear

Lets see.........
7 years of Civic ownage, 3 seasons of autox, 800+ 1/4 mile passes, 100,000 miles under my ownership of DAILY beating. Not to mention the 30 bottles of nitrous.
One stock clutch and one used Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch.
I DEFINE driveline abuse!

I heard of it being called double clutching. It has its own advantages and disadvantages during a race. i.e. ruining the clutch <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

except you don't need to double clutch in a upshift.....and don't need to double clutch at all in our cars......syncros[QUOTE]
OMFG its funny when people talk about things the dont know about. to clear it up double clutching is for shifting from a higher gear to a lower gear. It consists of puching the clutch and dropping to neutral then releasing the clutch tapping the gas to match rps of the lower gear with your flywheel/crank, clutch in again and go into the lower gear and clutch out. (pushing the clutch 2 times hence double clutching) And the whole point is to make the shift from a higher to lower gear smooth and not bog. sure syncros do this for you but they still put a load on the tranny which is why if you just slap it into the lower gear your whole car lurches/bogs not to mention its bad on the syncros.

When i was learning to drive about 2 years ago my driving instructer said that his clutch cable snapped once and he double de clutched to get home, I always thought wtf was he on about, his clutch would have been engaged the entire way home, I can see how you could downshift without using the clutch but no how you could upshift.. anyone got any ideas, somehow I think he was lying..
