I have a weird problem where the speedo on my car doesnt work first thing in the morning. If I drive it for say 20 minutes then stop for 20 minutes it starts working again. If I drive for 20 minutes and stop for 5 minutes it will still not work.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Oh yes its a 93 Del Sol Vxi.

 

if you get a CEL 17, VSS unit is bad or just a bad connection (common bad connection)

no CEL = speedo head is going bad.

 

Cheers for that, finally got around to testing and yes I get a CEL 17.

Next question where is the VSS unit located. Sorry for being such a dumbass, hopefully I can solve this myself without taking it into a garage.

 

VSS is on top of the transmission. facing the engine, look towards the top left (to the passenger's side of the firewall, then look down

you'll see a plug that is vertically up from the transmission, 3 pin plug

sometimes its the vss unit that goes bad, and other times the wire gets corroded by water or stuff like that and it goes bad. good luck!

(its held on by i think two 10mm bolts to the tranny so u can take it off easily)
