Default Tranny problem

My car is making a grinding noise when i take off on first gear and when i let off (Down shift) on any other gear but once i step on it it seems to run like a champ i thought it was my exhaust being loose. Is my tranny going out.??? its a 92 si with 210239 mi on the chassis dnt know how many on the engine.

Just had the same problem.. if the noise goes away when you press the clutch.. then that is the input shaft bearing..

I tried to see if i can get fixed, but it's cheaper to buy a used one.. you can find here for good price
