How to get a deeper tone exhaust sound?
I bought a ebay N1 style exhaust for my '92 Integra since I don't want to put out the money for a quality brand part. As I feared, it isn't as loud as I would have hoped for like a Greddy does. It does have a deep tone to it but its not that loud at all. From what I've heard it could happen if I have the resonator and muffler cut and made straight-through as one possibility I guess that's where I need more feedback on that or on a possible different route. Biggest fear I have right now is that I screw up somewhere and I end up with a Teg that sounds like one of those rice Civics that sound like tin fart cans. I've posted up images of how my catback system looks like and how it looks like on a model car (not mine). Thanks in advance.

Having a straight pipe instead of a resonator will make your exhaust note louder, but more raspy. I wouldn't do it, but , hey it's your car. *shrugs*

he's totally right, louder, but with that tin can noise that you are afraid of
the way i figure, and this is just me of course, if you have a complete exhaust and the sound isnt too loud at all, you should be happy. No sense in being heard a mile away just rounding the block, and you can avoid costly tickets with a quieter exhaust

Much appreciated for the feedback guys, btw. Logically it would be smarter to keep my exhaust the way it is to avoid the tickets but I'm still looking for a inexpensive way to get more of a louder tone but completely deep toned, not high pitched and raspy. I guess my situation is common but I can't seem to find any posts on forums to solve my situations besides whipping out $500-700 for a real brand.

Doing anything by changing out the resonator, or cat, is only going to make it louder/raspy.
So unless you throw a turbo on, and Then some straight piping, it's going to be raspy.

I could not agree more. If you want something diff. put a twin loop, of not keep what you got.

I have a Skunk2 Catback and its loud as hell. It makes my ears pop sometimes. Lol. I don't think you want that really. Its a deep, good sound, but loud as hell.
My Greddy B-pipe resonator went bad months ago. Cut that out and put in a straight section. It doesnt start rattling until I hit second stage intake. Well no one is gonna care after mADVtEC kIcKs In Yo?
But yes, keep the resonator definitely.

Replace the resonator and/or muffler with a glasspack. On my Triumph Spitfire I'm running a 4-1 header -> high flow cat -> 10" glasspack -> Y pipe (go ahead and laugh, but it get around the rear diff nicely) -> 12" glasspack per side -> Y pipes again -> Monza resonator tips (4 in total, yes, keep laughing). While it is louder than I would ever want for a daily driver, it is very very deep and rumbles.
Honestly, if its quieter than you expected, thats a good thing for flying under the radar. Nothing says "pull me over" like an exhauist that sounds like you're speeding when you aren't.

Damn, those exhaust look gay to me, Like how the tip is aside from the muffler or however you say it. I would have gone with a N1 can tip with straight piping, that will make it loud
Headers too are to be considered.
I'd say you're lucky, and especially out of an N1 system...wow. I may just have to buy one =P

For reference, I have a Greddy SP2 (probably one of the deeper, and quieter exhausts for an Integra). Last night on my way home from work, I was pulled over in Modesto for my exhaust. Of course I got a fix it ticket. I proceeded to drive the rest of the way home (about 15 minutes), when low, and behold... I get pulled over by another police officer, for: modified exhaust with excessive noise. Luckily I had the ticket from the Modesto police department, and showed the officer from the Turlock police department. The turlock officer looked at it, realized that he could not cite me for it, and decided to cite me for not having a front plate instead. I haven't changed anything on my car (except the suspension) for years. The last time I was pulled over was December of 2004, for modified exhaust. It should be noted that my car does not stand out (no flashy graphics, body kits etc), and that I do not speed, or drive recklessly. I was driving home in a normal manner when stopped last night. I would recommend keeping it quiet.

you get what you paid for.. i recently bought the espenlir gt500 for my DA. in my opinion, it's louder than the Apexi N1 on my friend's integra. costed me 4 bills tho.. straight pipe will make ur car louder! haha
