I have the 3" thermal and it is loud as a mother. But it is a "deep" sort of loud, not loud like high pitched buzzz but a deep bass sound.

i wanna get a 3" thermal so bad, but i got a chance to listen to one the other day and it was freakin loud...the car wasnt boosted, but seriously, how much can a turbo drop the noise level? i'll hold off until i can get another beater car; as it is this is my only car now and i dont wanna be apologizing to people in the car.

If you turn music with enough highs to about half volume you barely notice the exhaust heheh.

But seriously... it's loud. I think it sounds great but you will be apologizing to your passengers.

Would deadening your trunk help?

What about if you just lined your trunk with some heavy carpet liner? It wouldn't weigh much.

i have a 3" thermal with carsound cat. It is loud, no doubt about it. its a low freq loud that is really only noticeable in the car. Most loud coming off throttle.
Folks outside will not be turning their heads when you drive by but its annoying for those in the car. You will not be too upset since its your car and people have the choice to ride with you or not. My gsr is my fun project so i just decided to live with the freakin noise. Actually, i was tempted to put my stock 2" back on and go back to total silence but then again, i did this turbo thing for the power...right?

why dont you try their quiet version, if you must have thermal R&D... other than thermal, you can try 5Zigen which is really quiet compared to most exhausts out there.
my current exhaust rattles my whole car cuz its so deep. Deep is cool, but not so deep that the car rattles unbearably.
I personally would rather have a quiet exhaust over a loud one... after the years of loud exhausts, I think I'm over it. It not good when you cant talk to your passengers without yelling...

I love my thermal 3". I get remarks all the time about how people think that it sounds more like a V8 rumble rather than a small I4.

Hey!
I had a custom 3 inch down pipe mated to a three inch (id) flex pipe connected to a 3 inch cat with two three inch resonators and then a three inch muffler with the -of course- 3 inch exhuast tip turned downward (like a 500SL or 600SL Mercedes, except with only one tip) so you dont even see an exhaust from the rear. It is three inches all the way back and it is really quiet but still has a really nice deep tone. Unfortunately I have only two cylinders with compression- bad rings- so it really sounds like a big ol' V8.
I paid a pretty penny, but the downpipe and blow-down tube were custom made into a closed loop before the cat. It all came out to $1000. I think it was worth it!
Just another idea.
Your friend in Seattle,
James

Get Dynomat Super, it will kill some of the excessive noise. Peace.
