Default differences in 96-98 and 99-00 2 door trunks?

i've bandaided this problem for a while, but want to finally fix it.

i bought a 97 honda 2 door trunk lid and put it on my 2000 coupe.

when i did that, there is a huge gap toward the rear window that leaves enough space was water to get in.

currently i added a layer of weatherstripping around the oem one which is still attached to the body of the car.

Am i missing something in the trunk?

This is a good question, I was under the impression that they were both exactly the same...

the weatherstripping i added is about 1/2 inch thick, just to make up for the gap

I put a 00 trunk lid on my 97, I noticed it did not fit perfect around the window. I have heard that 96-98 has a different part number as to the 99-00 lid.

96-98:

WEATHERSTRIP, TRUNK LID - 74865-S04-003
HINGE, R. TRUNK - 68610-S01-J00ZZ
HINGE, L. TRUNK - 68660-S01-A00ZZ

99-00:

The parts are identical, according to the HondaNet 2000 EPC.

Are you sure you didn't select a painted one? Because all the painted ones have different parts numbers. I got those part numbers from HONDA. HondaNet 2000 is Honda's EPC that they just recently stopped using (as of 2002).

From slhondaparts *uses a web-based version of honda's epc* ..... hondaautomotiveparts are wrong, or you selected the wrong part.

Word, that's a reputable site..

If they're the same part # obviously it's the same part...

So you screwed up installing it....not sure how, but whoops.. fix it

The Honda parts catalog indicates that all '96-00 2dr Civics share the same trunk lid.

i have a 99 si trunk on my 97, fits exact, but remember when removing an oem part and installing another, u must adjust. every car's trunk sits diffrent, no matter what.
adjust, adjust, adjust...
