Default 96-98 and 99-00 Sedan Taillight Question

I searched and couldn't find a thread with a unanimous answer. Will 99-00 tails fit on a 96-98 civic? I looked at pictures and are almost certain that the inner 99-00 tails need the 99-00 sedan trunk. But i am more concerned in the outer pieces. Do they bolt up? Minor modification? Major? Thanks in advanced.

Blah...I'm 99.9% sure they will.

I have 99/00 COUPE tails on my '97 EX COUPE. They're fully interchangeable.

They probably didn't change the taillights of the sedan and left the taillights of the coupe, but ya never know.

On coupes, they are fully compatible, I dunno about sedans though.

you are correct they are totally different. you have to swap a 99-00 4 door trunk to be able to use the 99-00 tail lights on a 96-98.

hope this answered your question.

Yeah, I think it's weird that they changed the tail structure on the sedans from 98 to 99 but they didn't on the coupes .

I have 99/00 EX tails on my '97 EX and they fit 100%. Though I have a coupe...

EDIT:
Oh well, learn something new everyday.

I hate the look of 6th gen sedan tail lights with a passion. I don't know why... Don't know why I even said this.. Honda did some weirdness between 96-98 and 99-00.. This may sound weird but till this day I still don't know what the difference is between the front ends of 96-98 and 99-00.. I just havent looked at pics nor bothered.. I always saw 6th gens as 6th gens...

As I understand it, they are interchangeable. I've heard from a couple people that they don't fit though.

yeah judging by the pictures i'd say that with the 99-00 trunk it should work. I'll post a before and after pic in here or sumwhere to clear up all the confusion. Thanks again guys.

What?

Houw could you think all four cars I posted are all '99-'00s? Plus, the bottom one are EX coupes. The front ends are all the same for USDM '96-'98 Civics and all the same for '99-'00 USDM Civics.

Lmao, I can't tell the difference either besides the taillights (thx to NOFX pointing it out to me on my own car ). Everybody shows me a '97 or '99 front end and are like "see the difference?" - and I'm like "no.."

6g = 6g ftw

These would be the exterior differences...

- '96-'98 headlights are rounded on the top outer edge. '99-'00 headlights have a more pointed shape on the top outer edge.

- '96-'98 headlights have a textured inside on the turn signal housing and an amber reflector strip at the bottom of the turn signal housing. The '99-'00 turn signal housing is clear and has an amber reflector between the turn signal housing and the headlight housing.

- '96-'98 headlights are not as pointed on the inner point as the '99-'00 headlights are.

- '96-'98 front grilles are not as wide as the '99-'00 front grille.

- '96-'98 front grille are not as tall as the '99-'00 front grille.

- The space between the headlight and the front grille is wider on the '96-'98 than it is on the '99-'00.
- The '99-'00 front bumper has nonfunctional brake ducts on either side of it's lower grille. This is where the fog lights are mounted on a '99-'00 bumper. The '96-'98 does not. The fog lights on a '96-'98 are mounted in the outer corners of the lower grille.

- The lower grille is wider on the '96-'98 front bumper than on the '99-'00 front bumper.

- The '99-'00 rear bumper on the coupes and sedans has a slight lip integrated as part of the bottom of the rear bumper.

- The '96-'98 coupe taillights are the same shape as the '99-'00 coupe taillights, but the '96-'98 taillights are red on top, and amber toward the outside of the bottom and white/clear toward the inside of the bottom. The '99-'00 coupe taillights are red on top and white/clear on the entire bottom.

- The '96-'98 hatch taillights are the same shape as the '99-'00 hatch taillights, but the '96-'98 taillights are red on the top and bottom and amber toward the outside of the middle and white/clear toward the inside of the middle. The '99-'00 hatch taillights are red on the top and bottom and white/clear on the entire middle.

- The '96-'98 sedan taillights are red on top and amber on the outer bottom section and white/clear on the inner bottom section. The inner taillights on the '96-'98 are flat on the inner edge with 90 degree angles while the same spot on the '99-'00 sedan taillights are wider on the bottom and angle in to be not as wide on the top of the taillight. The '99-'00 sedan taillights are red on the bottom and amber toward the outside of the top and white/clear toward the inside of the top. Because of this the plate garnishes on the different designs are different shaped on the sedans.

Your bumpers here are known as "SiR" bumpers. The only way they're different than our '96-'98 bumpers is that your bumpers have black moldings along the top corners. The shape of hte bumper otherwise is the same.

To clarify, she means the "SiR" bumpers come on many EDM '96-'98 models.

I don't believe it really matters anymore than even, "he liked the look of the other ones."

What was wrong with your stock mirrors? What was wrong with your stock wheels?

WOW THANKS!! I finally know the difference. Made things clear. The sedans are really nice there. I'm not sure what it is I don't like.. I liked these.. maybe white dx/lx sedans I don't like when they don't have the licence plate holder painted? ehh.. Thanks again!
