Default Spark plug questions? is my engine ok?

hey fellas just need a little advice here.. i swapped a 99 d16y8 into my 98 civic lx, everything is running fine,(or so i think) but none the less, i feel i am running to rich and i get about 17mpg it eats gas like a v8.. i dont know why.. i was browsing around the net and my spark plugs look just like this..

the tip looks just like that and my ring is always dry black
so thats bad right?

now isnt the my ecu supposed to calibrate my a/f ratio? why am i running rich

(i am running the proper ecu p2p) so i dont know why i have this problem and if im running rich, what can i do about it?...

P.S: my engine doesnt have much pull under 3krpm if i floor it i have to wait till about 3500k then the engine surges with power till redline.. (rich?)

i have an msd blaster 2 coil along with its cap,and msd wires which was installed about 5 months ago, and i got a fresh msd rotor in for about a month now..changed my oil 3 weeks ago, (seafoamed it last week), got a short ram with a fresh K&N filter.. i got extra ngk plugs but i dont want to put them in yet. because im not sure whats going on with the engine.

vac lines look ok.. not sure whats causing my shitty mileage and rich engine..idle drops a little bit after warmed up.. 400-500rpm..

I've never heard anything bad about doing that either, but I wouldn't do it, I have had a bad experience with MSD I will NEVER use another one of there poorly made products ever again

140 miles on half a tank, thats like 25+ mpg, I think the tank is 11 gallons

edit: tank is exactly 11.9 gallons

lets just round out and say at empty i would have gone 200miles
my tank is 12 gallons that would make my mpg 16.6, thats horrible.. anyone else have shitty gas mileage... i heard of civics having like 30mpg.. what happend?..

i go to and from work everyday, but on fridays i travel maybe 30 miles the whole weekend and watch my gauge go from full to empty in too short a time and my trans is shifting kind of hard.. but its the d16y7 trans with a d16y8 engine (auto) so i think since the p2p is intended to be used for the d16y8 tranny i guess thats why its shifting hard..
