Sooty Spark Plugs
Got a quick one for ya... Just took the spark plugs out of my new B18C, and they're pretty black, which would indicate a rich running engine(?)... Can you guys give me a couple of ideas what I would need to fix so I'll be running not so richly? I'd like to take care of this before the engine goes in.. Thanks!

Could also be the wrong heat range. Without knowing how the engine was running or if there were any CEL's, it's impossible to diagnose what might be causing it to run rich, if it was.

Its a carbon fouled plug. Its either slow-speed driving, you heat range too cold, a weak ignition, or a rich mixture. Just install the engine and cheat the CEL codes if there are any.

Re: Sooty Spark Plugs (1HotHonda)
the nice thing about hondas is that you can clean the plugs really easy in the car if it has been from short trips and not properly warming up the car ans excessive idling then what you can do is drivethe car in 1st for like a minute at a decently high rpm 3-4k and they will clean themselves......if you remove them and they are still black sheck the heat range or look at what you have changed on the engine and think what you did that could have casued this

Think that could also explain the caked up carbon on the inside of the exhaust ports?
