Default Car idling funny, jerking hard when changing gears\letting off throttle :( d16y8

For about a month now my car has been idling real high.. its not every day but it has.. usually jumping from 1,500 and going down to 800..

Today though when I was driving to work it was acting extremely strange.. it sat at 1,500 at idle and would jerk real violent when I would change gears and release the throttle.. when i would step on it a little it would also jerk..

on first gear when i hold the throttle lightly it jerks constantly.. and begins to idle funny like if it has a cam or something

sorta like.. woom mm woom mm woomm woom mm, :X

I had thought originally it was the IACV but it just feels like a piston aint working or something, anybody ever come across this prob? what could it be ><!!

The jerking feels like your car would feel when you would downshift.. except its all on the same gear (or gears, does it 1,2,3,4 and 5 gear)

a vacuum leak might be causing that idle problem, spray some carb cleaner on all the vacuum lines and see if the car wants to die, if it does you know you have a leak

yup... on, over and around the vacuum lines. If there a leak it will suck up the mist and cause the engine to stumble, almost stall.

disconnect thie IACV when the idle starts to bounce, and see if it stops

Are you throwing any codes? This happened to me but it was from where i removed my cruise control and didnt plug the vacuum port on the intake manifold. More than likely a vacuum leak causing your problems.

Ditto, just fixed a friends car with the exact same issues. He has a torn Tbody gasket from his AEBS install. Car was horrible. New gasket and a little sealant, car runs like a top.

my car does this too but not all the time.

some times it idles ok (always higher than my bf's) and drives wonderful. other times it idles high and if you ease the clutch out at low speed and try to drive with level gas pedal it jerks like a bucking horse. then the throttle is like an on/off switch... nothing is smooth.

I hate it, and the bf doesn't know what to do.

help me!

thats the same problem im having!! Its not all the time..

But when it happens its horrible. like it wants to pull your rev down.

FOR EXAMPLE. it will be idling at 1600 rpm idle.. rev it up a little to lets say 2500 and it shoots RIGHT BACK down to 1600, sorta like a motorcycle.

that might be a tps problem, vacuum leak would make your idle surge and go higher

Well we cant help if you dont tell us what youve tried. Have you checked all the vacuum lines and ports, have you checked the IACV? Have you recently done anything to your car that might make it do this. Talk to us man.

Why dont you check the Fast Idle Thermal Valve, if that plungers not screwed in all the way itll cause an irratic idle. Also low coolant will cause an irratic idle also.

lol, so you mean... (im such a manual car noob) that in the lower gears, 2nd, and 1st... on occassion 3rd... that if I let off the peddle, it should not suddenly slowdown or at lower RPS kind of lurch gerk as the rpms drop?

Just had a tranny rebuilt for too much... shifter was tightened and feels notchy but if I have another problem im going to flip.... I don't have anymore money lol

I havnt done anything to the car except I\H\E.

I cleaned out the IACV with some brake cleaner and still same prob.

I am going to look into bleeding my coolant today.

Last night it happened again.. just for kicks i dropped to 3rd gear and let the rpm's fall.. as soon as it reached 2000 rpm it started jerking really violently like if it wanted to shut off..
