h22 civic coupe idle problem
Hey guys,
well i just got my h22 civic coupe. the motor has quite a few mods on it ( aftermarket intake mani, tb, etc..) and the motor has been professionally tuned, well when i turn the car on cold it idles fine at about 900-1000. and when it gets warmed up it still idles fine. but when i press the gas or rev it when the needle comes back down it goes to like 200 and then shoots back up to like 1500. sometimes it dies. and when i drive it and stop at a stop sign it stalls on me. the owner before me said it was because the way it was tuned and thats why it does this. but ive been reading about cleaning my iacv etc.. just want to see if any of you had an idea of what it could be, any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Re: h22 civic coupe idle problem
I had the same price with my wifes h22 lude. Does your IM have an egr on it? Also easiest way to check iacv is to unplug it while the cars running if the idle drops or changes then chances are its probably not that. But cleaning the iacv only takes about 10 minutes so it would be wise to go ahead and clean it anyways. Your tune shouldn't let it drop idle so low that it dies out. Pcv valve isn't clogged is it? Sorry for the dumb questions but people due tend to look over the simple things thinking it's a major issue instead of a simple $2.49 part

Re: h22 civic coupe idle problem
not sure if my IM has an egr on it. my car is a 98 civic si, but ya ill clean out the iacv and pcv valve?? ill check an see if theres a DIY for cleaning the pcv, or would it make more sense to purchase a new one?

Yeah I'm not sure if your si came with an egr my 96 did but are u throwing any codes? Like stated above just pick up another pcv and clean the hell out of the iacv and let us know if u throw any codes. The car stalling Like that is usually associated with egr, iacv, pcv.

Re: h22 civic coupe idle problem
just put the pcv valve in, its running alot better, but still sometimes comes down to about 400 rpm but shoots back up to 1000 and stays there, overall it was good, i didnt clean the iacv yet because my brother forgot the brake cleaner at work so ill have to do that tomorrow, lets hope it does the trick!!

Glad that worked for you. Should get better after the iacv is cleaned. Like I said my wife's h22 was doin the same thing I cleaned the iacv, egr and replaced the pcv valve not sure what fixed it but it'll save head ache to do all at the same time and it's only a couple bucks for the brake cleaner and pcv and alot cheaper then paying a effing shop to do $10 worth of work for a minimum of $90.

Re: h22 civic coupe idle problem
haha ya i totally agree, so out of laziness i havent cleaned the iacv, but the pcv valve make the car idle better and not stall during idle. car still dies when i come to a stop while driving, unless i keep the rpms up, so tomorrow im gonna clean the iacv and get my lazy *** outta bed early, ill let ya know how it goes... if not ill check out the egr??
