Price you would pay for This R
Hey, you guys might remember me before talking about the CW 98 R. Now I am very close from purchasing it. However, I want to hear from experience R owners to tell me how much this car is worth, here's some stats:
Year: 1998
Color: CW
Mileage: 36,XXX. only 2000 miles were put on the car/motor since May 13, 2004 with 34,455. Seller say it has been garaged, i find that kind of fishy but he seem like a nice and trustworthy guy.
Clean title
JDM ITR front end (non HID)
everything else stock
so help me out! all i need is opinions from you guys, and checking out the car in person. Then the R is my possesion. Thanks guys

Hey, there are plenty of people selling cars who overestimate their value. If you ask more than the market, it just won't sell, unless you're lucky enough to find a fool willing to overpay.
For $18K, you can get one with the same mileage that's 2-3 years newer and hasn't been modded.
That car is not worth more than $17K, and probably not even that. But the seller is welcome to hold out for whatever price he wants.

I think 17K is about right. It all depends on the condition of the car. When I bought my '98 ITR in 2002, I paid $17,250 for it. It had 32K on the clock and was in excellent condition. The car was stock except for a Comptech header and exhaust. But I got what people tell me was a great deal. This car will need to be in excellent condition to sell for 17K though.

In my opinion, yes. Other people may not think so, though.

15k max. and thats even a bit too much, imo.
im sure it will sell for more, but that does not make it a 'good' price.</TD></TR></TABLE>
IMO a fair price (not a huge bargain for the buyer or a huge ripoff for the seller) is one that you ought to be able to replicate fairly easily.
The reason $15K is at the low end of the range I stated ($15000-16500) is because of the mileage. You can buy nice, higher-mileage '98 ITRs for around $12K with very high mileage (100-150K miles) and around $14K with medium mileage (50-100K miles). This one might be worth $16000-17500 if it didn't have the JDM front end, but I figure about a grand less because of that.
Of course, this is all mere speculation. If you're selling, and you think your car is worth more - list it for more, and see if you get any offers; you can always lower it later. If you're buying, and you think you ought to be able to get it for less - make an offer you think is fair, and if it's declined, keep looking elsewhere.

You don't have to explain yourself Ken,, well err um I guess you did. But I completely agree. The JDM conversion would not be of higher value to me and I think $15k to $17k is pretty fair.
But just by looking at one pic and the information posted by the OP you really can't determine what type of deal it is. You need to actually see it in person and really pick it apart and see what's been done or undone regardless of if the seller says it's "completely stock" besides the JDM conversion.

I concur. I would pay abouy 16 for that. But i would definitely look into what the heck was done with the car in that 2 year "blank" period. Carfax it, and look carefully. Aftermarket parts isnt all that hard to spot. If everything is cool, you got yourself one sweet ITR.

Yes, definitely. The above price assumes it's in clean condition and has been well maintained. If it's ratty - crappy mods, ripped seats, unrepaired or poorly repaired body damage, faded paint, flame stickers
, stuff like that - then it can be worth considerably less.

thanks guys. I really wasnt looking forward to do so much research on certain prices for certain ITR, because this is a 1st come 1st serve situation, so i needed quick help. Thanks to all who gave out opinion
I was also looking at the ad for this car on craigslist. The JDM front is cool to me, and the car still immaculate. KBB retail value was about $14,300.
I think the seller is asking $17,500, and the most I'd probably offer would be $16,500. Not worth the asking price, but surely more than retail value, IMO.

KBB values are notoriously inaccurate for the ITR. They don't track the actual market; they simply apply depreciation formulas across the board. That generally works for higher-volume cars like Accords, Civics, and standard Integras, but does not work for the low-volume ITR (or other low-volume cars like the NSX).
