b18 a1 head is it trash?
can u build a turbo setup with the b18a1 with stock head and would that be more reliable than the ls/vtec (ive heard a lot of horror stories over swapping heads and tapping blah blah blah). i personalyy have thought stock head with goodies is more reliable thant the ls/vtec mombo jambo.thx
Reliability will primarily come from the quality of the build and the tuning of whatever engine management system you will be using. The LS head is good enough to make decent power in stock form. How much HP are you aiming for?
ive heard its 100 horsepower a liter so i assume its 180? 250-300hp would be nice but i would need sleeving....turboed....and such.

The b18a's and b18b's don't make 100 hp per liter. The b16 does.
As long as your strict with cleaning and tolerances during your build, there's nothing wrong with an ls/vtec, especially if you understand rod/stroke ratios.

Conmpletely stock LS can be turboed to 300hp no problems
There isn't much differenct between the B18a1 and B18b head but there is some, if you are going to build the head the vtec will always out flow the LS...but the cost of the LS head and the parts will be less, a built LS head will flow fairly well, its all about money if you have the money to do it right and LS/Vtec motor will more than likely make more power but the LS will probably get you to your power goal no problem too, sinc you are only shooting for 300 a stock LS will get you there

Yes the stock head is pretty much junk, the bottom end is another story
Read up and either know someone or get good at wrenching if you arn't already make your own lsvtec. Even the worst vtec head *g1 b16a* is alot better then a b18a. You can port both and guesss what will be on top, the vtec heads. They offer vtec, making it a tad tricker to tune *if you don't know what your doing* because you have 2 cam profiles xover etc but, with tuning if you don't know what you are doing read up or send it to one of many many great tuners out there.

4 a little crx with a turboed b18 stock head or not 300 horses is nice because the car is nothing more than a box with wheels

VTEC heads are not unreliable in any way, shape, or form. After all, there are plenty of GSRs out there that hae been running like a top since the mid-1990s. The unreliability of the LS-VTEC has alot more to do with the bottom end. Specifically, you stop making power at around 6500RPM (plus or minus a couple of hundred) with a stock, LS head. This means that Honda didn't design the bottom end to be reliable at much above this. And with a head that can't make power at, say, 8000RPM, it is pointless to rev that high. But if you swap on a VTEC head, then the resulting motor suddenly CAN make power that high. It just won't hold together too well unless properly built.

the R/S ratio has more to do with the redline then the head does (for the b18)
