Default H23 Vtec

I started a h23vtec build last fall and the machine shop should be done this week. From what I have read you shold only rev the engine to around 7000. If the machine shop balnced the crank rods pistons and flywheel up to 10,000rpms is it just the R/S ration that prevents me from going to 8000? The only reason I'm asking is because I have skunk2 cams and would like to rev higher to see the cams make better power.
I know this doesn't make a diff. but I have new bearings, and would be willing to replace them once or twice a year to be able to rev higher.

Which block is it, an H23a1 or the JDM H23A?

The JDM version has a redline of 7200 rpm & has larger mains so I'm comfortable reving mine to around 7500 rpm which is where the power is already falling off anyways even with stage 3 cams.

The US version has a redline of ? (6300 rpm thereabouts) with smaller mains. I wouldn't suggest reving it over 7000 rpm's, though I know of guy that his to 8000 rpm regularly. Not very good for longevity because it puts on lot of stress on the cylinder walls because of the lower R/S ratio.

get it dyno'd, see where the power falls off and no need to rev it higher then that...should be fine....i put 9,000 miles on my h23/vtec and the block had orgionally 227,000 and ended up with 236,000 with no issues revving it to 7200 daily on a bone stock bottom end.....prob didnt make much power past 7000, so dont go crazy wirh revving this this, it will only be harming your motor...

The piston speeds, valve train, and (I would think) lack of oil squirters are also going to keep the redline down.

Whay not add the oil squirters to the setup? Isn't it a bolt in item?

I was surprised to find that the H23A vtec, which has a redline of 7200 RPM, does not originally come with oil squirters. I think an NA street car would be fine without squirters since it won't see the high RPM's often or for long periods. A boosted, or track car could make use of them to cool the OEM pistons.

That sounds like the best way. I may of been thinking of 6200rpms was the sug. redline. What header did you run?

I have a h22 block with a JDM F22 DOHC crank, crower rods(over kill), new crank and main bearings, and type s pistons. So the set up should be pretty fresh. I plan on putting the oil squirters in, you just have to bend them for clearance. I'm not sure on this but i read that they are not really needed for the setup. Just for a little extra safty.
