Default Alternatives to JimFab Crossmember???

Hi all,

I'm in the market for a traction bar for my 1991 Civic Si hatch. I tried to get ahold of someone affiliated with JimFab, and a webmaster emailed me back saying that Jim has no intentions of producing anymore crossmembers. He then recommended that I look into purchasing a "full-race" unit.

Does anyone actually HAVE one of these???

Says on the website you can't use your stock radiator, but very conveniantly you can buy theirs that WILL fit for the low low price of $329.00!!!

Well, that's not entirely accurate. It says, you CAN use your factory radiator, but it won't fit under your hood without being "angled back".

"Use these traction bars along with our custom designed 88-91 Civic/CRX radiator for a professional looking install."

As much as I love zip ties....that doesn't look very "professional" to me.

Are there any other better units than this full-race one? Preferably one that allows a stock sized radiator that is held in place at BOTH ends

Ya zip ties is not too reliable, but it does work. Anyway, you might try these guys, they have a replacement crossmember for our ef and you can also buy the rad support for the 92 and up radiator. You can also transform these into a traction bar with options.

I think passwordjdm also carry their products.

Yea, I read that thread...and all 37 pages of its glory.

I'd have no problem buying the "compatable radiator" from full-race, other than the fact that it really isn't being held in very well.

Does anyone have a full-race bar with an eg radiator, that fits correctly? (no cutting of hood, or missing mounting points)

Pics would be awsome

ok well i have both. i own the full-race traction bars with their half sized radiator, and let me just say. they are both awesome! the quality and craftsmanship is outstanding. it did take a little work with the traction bar getting in, as you have to remove your old radiator mounts....but man, its sooo ****** worth it.

if you need pics, ill send em.

ok, lemme get this straight...

youre running a 88-91 crx with fullrace traction bar, and stock radiator? It says on the website and about 30 other places I've checked, including the other thread that it has to be tilted.

Looking at your pics though, It looks to be in the stock position to me. So what gives??

Do you have anypics from underneath, and looking down between the manifold and radiator?

i have to take some, the bar has two hole that go under the stock radiator mounts you just take the ruber out of the stock lower mounts and it works perfect. I didnt even cut the bottom ones off.

My car is 6 hours away ill have some pics next weekend if u need e,m

shitty pic but u can see the fullrace bar underneath

yea, whenever you get around to it.

Ironically, I'm driving up to buffalo on saturday to pick up my new hatch, I actually found it here on honda-tech. Go figure

He had the JimFab unit, so the car is missing the x-member. Rather than finding a oem one, I'd much rather buy an upgraded one.

I noticed you aren't running any cooling fans...Obviously you don't have the clearance on the right side, but what about the left?

its a smaller fan (i got mine from carquest) like 1" wide and you can wire it to suck (like oem) or place it on the other side of the radiator (between the bumper and the radiator) and its pushes air instead of sucking

Just got my Si last week... There are some minor issues...but all I really care about is NO RUST!!!

The car had a JimFab xmember, and whoever put it in cut the framing a little to make it fit, and removed the stock radiator mounting tab.

Boosted chemist...Did you have to cut anything to make the FullRace one fit?

Also, I noticed that someone cut the bumper support to allow the FMIC to fit. Did you have to do this as well? I know my mechanic had a FMIC that fits the Ef bumper with any mods, but its kinda short and fat.
