Sticking throttle "only while cars running" (searched)
Like the topic says: The butterfly opens smooth if the car is off but when I turn it on it sticks. The spring seems good. I cleaned the throttle body with carb cleaner and a tooth brush, and then wiped it clean and put lube inside and on the butterfly (very clean). I am teting it with the cable off so It is NOT the cable for sure cause it still sticks. While driving, the higher I rev ussually the higher up it stays stuck and I have to tap the throttle for it to go down. It happened all of a sudden. Went from no symptoms to sticking. Stock H22, havent been messing with anything before it happened. Any suggestions.
The leak would make the throttle stay open? You can manually turn the rotor on the throttle body when its stuck and see that it moves. A leak makes the butterfly keep from closing?
No, it wouldn't. I was asking if you had actually seen the TB stuck open, or were you assuming it's the TB because the engine RPMs were high. I'm wondering if maybe your cruise control is malfunctioning. Not sure what else would keep it open only when the car's on
its not the cruise control, he's saying that it stays open with no cable on it
does it feel like its caught up while you turn it and its not sticking??
heres the test, hold it at full open with no cable on it, and let go, hopefully it slams shut
keep trying that with less and less load on it, like try releasing it from say only 1/4 open, keep trying that from varying positions on the butterfly
there is nothing other than vaccum that is different when the motor is on vs off, and the only way vacuum could hold it at all is if the spring is bad....

Yes, it slams shut. What is really wierd is that it slams with force like it should when it is off. The spring has good tension But when the car is running (just an example) it feels like the throttle body 'diameter got smaller' and doesnt close as easy.. If I drop it from 1/4 open it closes but if I hold it there and slowly let it go just like your gas pedal would if you were driving, it kinda stays stuck

Not exactly random.Say I rip 1st and 2nd gear and take it to redline, then it will most of the time stick around 4 grand. If I just accelerate to cruising speeds like normal, then it might stick at 1500-2300ish. Then I will just give the pedal a quick stab and it goes down. maybe needing to bleep it again if it doesnt go all the way down the first time. Thanks for the help.
The first thing I did was to test the throttle body with the cable disconnected. Like I said, if the car is off, it is smooth and shuts fine. But when I turn the car on and with my hand turn the rotor to open the throttle body, it will get tight and stick. Pretty wierd diagnosis, I know.
