Default Integra head unit install

So I fianlly got an aftermarket head unit for my car , only 5 years after buying the car lol. So yeah, I haven't really kept up with installation procedures over the years. I'm just wondering if there's anything new out that lets me keep the factory storage pocket?

I don't really care for the install shown on team-integra.net installation shown here http://www.team-integra.net/se...D=115 just because I don't like the idea of using duct tape and I also don't like that metal strap on the back of the head unit.

Is there anything that will allow installation of an aftermarket headunit that secures like factory in the dash and lets me keep the little pocket? I have my foglight switch mounted on the back of that pocket and don't really want to move it.

What about this item here, anybody used this? http://www.scosche.com/scosche...2.asp

Those mounting kit can be used, but you will not be keeping your stock radio pocket if you use that. I have tried to find every possible way to keep my stock pocket without using duct tape, but I could not find another option. So I end up using clear duct tape, and it works perfectly fine. Using the metal backstrap is a really good idea if you do not want to get your head-unit ganked off by hand. Those mounting kits just clips your head-unit in place, you could gank it off easily.

the duct tape method actually gives the cleanest looking install, where you can have the trim ring sit flush with the factory pocket. most of the aftermarket plastic kits have an opening you side the cage into and then you put the ring onto, which makes the deck sit out like 1/2"....

Yeah I ended up doing that. I had problems getting the cage to secure in the dash as well as I wanted (the bottom part, and the pocket, kept wanting to swing outwards). So what I ended up doing was taking a metal back strap, breaking off only a short section and bolting that to the back of the head unit, bent it into an L shape, and made it so that it sits on the bar behind the head unit where the factory unit originally bolted in. So that piece of bracket sitting on the bar supports the rear of the head unit, while the bent tabs on the cage help hold it in the dash.

Yes I (or even theives) can slide the head unit out with only the removal tools, without even taking the dash apart. But hopefully if it were ever stolen it would keep them from tearing up my dash too much. You know if I bolted the thing in there a theif would probably end up tearing my whole dash to shreds, and still get the head unit anyway.

The most "OEM" looking install is using the stock pocked and I have done so many times, [even used the duct tape at first] however we quickly changed from duct tape to making brackets out of back brace strapping, one on each side from the pocket bracket mounts to the ISO screw holes in the side of the HU and one from the back brace mounting hole on the HU to a bolt we install through the back of the pocket, and then for extra strength we also install brackets from the farthest back set of ISO holes on the HU to the rear sides of the pocket [again installing bolts through the pockets, the HUs cage is not used but along with the bracket from the back of the HU to the back of the pocket an "L" bracket is mounted to the rear of the HU and mounted to the OEM rear support bracket, [that the stock HU was mounted to] Both pocket and HU are rock solid in the dash. 94

yeah, but that would make it too difficult to remove in the future, I think, and theives would definitely rip the dash apart trying to get that out.

Also I would not want any screws coming through to the inside of the pocket. They would be visible, and also I have to stick my hand in there to reach my fog light switch mounted back on the rear part of the pocket.

That little L-bracket that I made for mine actually does line up with a slot on the factory support bar, but there's nothing threaded so I would somehow have to get both a bolt and a nut with washer back there if I wanted it bolted in, and I don't think there's enough room for both my hands to be able to do that.

i'm not sure what's in my car now, but it appears to be so solidly mounted i couldn't figure out how to get it out. i had to remove the old sleeve by bending and tweaking it. my new sleeve is just a little secured by the bend-tabs, and the hu pops into that. i would rather them take my HU than destroy my interior. once they've broken into the car, they're not leaving empty-handed, they'll do as much damage as necessary. they don't give a ****.

Well then you may as well leave the tools to remove the HU in the car, don't lock the doors, or maybe just pull the HU and leave it on the seat, that way there will be no damage at all, maybe.

No more difficult then pulling the stock HU.
Can you say speed nut, clip a speed nut to the "L" bracket and just use a screw, easy as cake, piece of pie 94

i live in slo, and i'm always pulling out my hu to expletive with something, so i like it easy to remove. when i'm done with everything i'll probably mount it properly, especially when i live in the bay area again. every time i sleep at my GFs house in SF i'm afraid i'm gonna find my motor/tranny/suspension/interior for sale on CL the next morning

whoa speednut, haha I didn't even think of that

I may just pull it back out this weekend and throw a speednut on the L-bracket so I can slip it in there and tighten it up w/ a screw like stock.

Although I do kinda like that I can pull the HU out w/o having to take apart the whole center console, but oh well.

I don't pull the console, I just pull the ash tray/lighter/cup holder assembly. 94
