head unit install on 94 Integra
hey-
recently, I got a few Integra dashes to play around with in some cars. None of them came with anything whatsoever in the dash. So, when I go to install the head unit I am a little in the dark.
I have a 'cage' that the head unit fits inside, but how does that go within the dash? Does it just slide in, and then push the tabs out to hold it in there?
Also - above/below the head unit there is a tray. The tray has threaded mounts on the side, but no bracket to meet the mounts. I suppose I could fab something up relatively easily but I figured I would ask; hows the tray secure?
Thanks in advance! I can take pictures if need be

The OEM head unit is usually screwed down to a metal support at the back of the radio. I changed out my radio and with an Alpine, and used a metal strip to hold the plastic pocket to the HU. I actually have nothing really bolting the HU and pocket down to the car, but it surprising stays in place, even over extreme bumps and such.

lemme go snap a picture of what i am workin with here
EDIT-okay here are some pics to clarify things
here is the cage for the radio. IT fits in the spot just fine but how do I secure it?

here is anopther angle, also showing the tray that goes near the radio. Does the tray go above, or below the radio? Notice the threaded piece on the side. Also notice the fins keeping it from sliding all the way in.

So what should I do?
Also - I got this dash partially damaged. Where the climate control slides in, there is no support for the screws to hold it in place, I guess someone broke it off at the junkyard:

Sorry for the bad picture, but i solved that problem by making a piece to fit back there out of aluminum. I plan on securing it with epoxy, because the rear of the side support if not flat.

could something like this work for the radio? lemme know

naw you didnt miss anything, I am not using a dash kit.
I went to Best Buy and told them I had a DEH P4000 and in response they told me that they do not carry 'cages for that old of a HU'. They informed me I would need to locate a cage on my own, and so I did.
I dont mind buying a dash kit - what does it come with that I do not already have?
Thanks for helpin me out!

Get the honda multi kit. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS! It will tell you which tabs to break off for your spicific model. Then the kit just snaps into the dash you can toss that pocket because the kit has one built in. You may want to back strap it tho cuz the kit snaps out about as easy as it snaps in. TIP: snap the kit into the dash before you put the cage in. When the cage installed after the kit the tabs you bend down on the cage will help to hold the kit to the dash.

Good advice, what do I strap and where do I strap it? Just use some strapping with holes in it, or could I use the same strip of aluminum I used in the above picture?

Yes. make an "L" bracket out of "back bracing", [strap with holes in it] and if you look at your first pix you will see the stock back support brace, it has "notch's" in it and one of them is right in the middle, it will line up with the back brace, ["L" bracket] you mount on the back of the HU, when you use a kit and mount the HU on top. the bottom of the L should be about 1/8" above the bottom of the HU, not flush like the stock HU.
