i was sold a d15b head unknowingly(didn't know what to look for at the time)anywayi put z6 crower cam and valvetrain.the head was shaved 30 thou i've read that the timing is different with this combo.the car doesn,t
like to idle and feels like it should pull more.can someone give me an idea where to start?maybe which way to go with the cam timing

 

wait a second what differance would it make to the timing anyway if the valve train is roughly the same?i know shaving the head retards the timing right? if so by how much?

d15b vtec head is EXACTLY the same casting as the z6 head, infact the only differance in ANYTHING AT ALL is the cam which has a WIDER lobe, and is supposedly more aggressive, with the aftermarket cam its identical to a z6 head w/ the same cam. the z6 head is even stamped P08, so the ONLY way to tell the differance is visually by the OEM cam.

check your cam timing (same as stock) then check ignition timing. then valve lash, compression, vacuum, etc....

your problem is going to be something to do w/ the install, not the part used.

 

i agree now after more reserch but fine tuning is something i've never done. to get my ign. timing right with out having the dizzy all the way advanced means my cam timing is off.it needs to be retarded right?what is valve lash?was the install done wrong on my part or the machinist?99.9% sure putting the head on the motor is right for i've checked it 8000 time very thoughly.how much "play" in the cam gear before things start banging?

 

valve lash is the clearance between the cam and follower. who put the cam in???

OK, just aint right, doesnt help AT ALL. hell, i work on cars for a living, and if i picked on every car that i had to testdrive daily (around 20-25 cars daily) i would say nearly all of them aint right.

 

the car doesn't like to idle. i've heard that "big " aftermarket cams don't like to idle,but mine is a stage 1 crower 319 dur. and .429 lift on intake and 310 dur and .436 lift

 

by doesnt like to idle do you mean idles rough, lopes, stalls, what???
