Default Almost positive it's the axles

When I swapped my engine to H22A I reused my 120,000 mile H23 axles. They made some clunks every now and then when the car downshifted (auto). Now that I've lowered the car the sound got worse and I get strong vibrations after 45mph. I launched the car while racing an eg the other day and now the clunking is with me almost always as I drive, I can feel it right below the pedals where the axles are. Yes it seems obvious to check the axles. I need some knowledgable feedback.

Oh yeah... since you can't get H22 auto axles at a parts store, will new/reman'd H23 auto axles work fine?

They clunk when accelerating, bumps in the road, and decelerating. I think I've even heard it clunk a couple of times when I took a turn. Thanks for the help with what axles to get.

I just raised the front end and checked the axles:

The drivers side had about 1/8" wiggle. The passenger side had no wiggle. Both wheels when turned made the clunking noise I've been hearing. So that means there isn't any grease in the joints so I need to replace my axles, correct?

You can probably get away with a new boot kit.

Otherwise, Autozone has a lifetime warranty on their axles. I have a set on both my cars, just in case you know, I decide to launch it @ 6k rpms on slicks or something. I mean, I don't know how it broke?...it just started making this noise one day!

I got both axles with lifetime warranties today, along with the other necessities: tranny fluid, jack stands, and 36mm axle socket.

Now I'm just wondering how the heck I'm going to get that axle nut off since it's torqued to 181 ft-lbs. My air compressor is small and only goes to about 120 ft-lbs so that's probably out of the question. I do have a huge wrench I could use though. This is where I would like you guys to chime in with advice.

Also...I passed on borrowing the $202 balljoint breaker, but I heard a hammer works fine. I'm going to start searching now, but feel free to give me advice.

compressors dont have any measure in ft/lbs....
its your impact gun that has a torque rating.

You know what, you're exactly right and I must have had a brain fart. I meant PSI and that's totally different.

u dotn really need a compressor to get htat nut off, just park the car take off the hubcap and get a 1/2" breaker bar and a long *** pipe and loosen it.

if the cars starts rolling, have someone press the brake.

I just tried to break it loose and the car just rolled back and forth a little. Good thing my friend is off work today, I've never had any help with working on my car before, so now I can have someone press the brakes. And I have a wussy 1.5' bar, so I need to find some way to extend it.

Anyways, don't worry, I'm not going to be posting every step I take with this, I know it's been posted a couple dozen times. Thanks for the advice.
