So I got a new e-brake handle and I was looking through a walkthrough on how to take out and install the e-brake handle. I looked in my HAYNES manual, but it just told me how to tighten the e-brake not remove or install it. I've searched, and didn't find anything. Does anyone have a walkthrough for this?

BTW it is on a 2000 civic

remove your armrest and you should see the screws.. im sure u can figure it out from there

 

Yeah I mean you can get more straight forward...

That rod dangling off of the back of it threads into the cable-holding assembly and there are three bolts... and the brake light switch connector...

1. disconnect brake light connector
2. unbolt 3 14mm (maybe 12) bolts that hold down the assembly.
3. unscrew dangling threaded rod from ebrake cable assembly
4. thread new ebrake dangling threaded rod into ebrake cable assembly
5. bolt down new ebrake assembly
6. connect ebrake switch
7. adjust dangling threaded rod so that ebrake is fully engaged after 7-9 clicks

done.

The only other thing that MIGHT come up is that you have to swap the ebrake switch off the old ebrake assembly... then you have to mount that so that it turns of the ebrake light when it's down...

It's REALLY straight forward.

 

yeah my bad I should've looked before posting seeing as it's kinda easy to figure it out.

A problem arises though with e-brake cover. I thought that the CTR e-brake cover fitted the coupe. but apparently it doesnt. There's like two brakets preventing it from fitting. Im thinkin Im jus gonna have to cut them, probably with a saw saw. anyone have any other ideas besides cutting?

That sucks man.

I don't know any good ways to get rid of those brakcets, but if you remove them, you're gonna want to find another way to secure the back portion so it does move around to much.

 

yeah true.. man.. I think I asked around here too if it would fit, and everyone said yes. lol. I dont think I would have to worry about it being supported that much, because of low that the rear would sit.

my rear section isn't secured at all... it doesn't really matter...

As far as those brakets I'm pretty sure they're bolted down... take the lower section of your rear seat out (one 10mm bolt in between the upper and lower section abt. 2-3"'s to the right of the driver rear seat belt recepticle)... and then it's a matter of tilting the back of the seat towards you and letting it come out of the 2 mount points in the front.

Then pull the carpet back you may have to disconnect the lower mount for the rear seatbelts as well....

But once that's all up I'm pretty sure it becomes obvious how to get that bracket out.

 

yeah you can take the bracket off. just take the two 10mm bolts off. the one that are holding the brake cables. lift up and the bracket is should come out. if you don't have much leverage your prob gonna have to loosen the ebrake cable.

What he said, but they are 12mm bolts.

You wouldn't happen to mean a "Sawzall" now would you? I don't think I've heard a tool referred to as a "saw saw" since I was talking to a preschool student

 

See those 2 12mm bolts? thats what hold on the bracket. Take those out and u can wiggle the bracket out easily

 

ohhh.. so the bracket isnt really needed? I was scared to touch it, because I didnt want to have the e-brake mess up or anything. I just recently started doing myself with modding the car so I'm kinda warry(sp?) of everything.

The bracket isn't needed, but the bolts should be put back once you remove the bracket

quick question...

how do i remove the e-brake light sensor? I tried tuggin on it, and pulling but it wouldnt come out. i dont want to mess up the sensor. what do I have to do to unclip it?

The 10 on the bolt has to do with its strength, not its size.

No answer for the sensor, sorry.

 

ok ok.. so i got everything in and all else, but the e-brake light on the dash stays on when I put down the e-brake. I drove around the block and it didnt feel like the e-brake was engaged. how do I get the e-brake light off?

Sounds like your sensor or the connector for it is damaged. You should probably just unplug it until you can get a new one. You could always take it apart and inspect the pins and wires to see if it's an easy fix.

 

well it wasn't like that before, and I didnt use too much force or even mess around with the sensor really. How much do new sensors cost?

 

nevermind... figured it out. I had to use one of the parts off the old e-brake.
