Hey everyone,
someone is offering to sell a 93 Si Coupe rear disk conversion
Read in one post that it might not work!
he says he will give brake boosters, master cylinder, e-brake cable etc.

I have a 93 DX hatch with drums in the rear!

It should work no problem...no reason to think otherwise..

Nope, you wont have a problem with ebrake cables

 

pretty sure there is no such thing as an 93 SI coupe, only came in hatches! But the disk brakes will work on your car. How much is he tryin to sell them for?

 

I think he wants $250!!

A bit steep don't you think?

 

btw. he wants to sell the fronts as well.
Would I need to change the brake booster and master cylinder?

will fit/work.. 250 for just rear is a bit high even with mc and prop valve.
im sure u can work something out if he wants to sell the front also

you dont need to change it.. (getting prop valve also?)
IMO since your going to have to bleed the brake system might as well swap all that stuff at once and save yourself the trouble incase you decide to add it in later.

He's from Canada - they offered an Si coupe up there, and it's basically like our EX but it doens't have power windows or door locks if I recall correctly.

Anyways the rear brakes will bolt up fine provided you swap the e-brake cables too.

Honestly it's not going to shorten your overall braking distances if that's what you're after. It will help with balance once you upgrade the fronts, and it looks cool, and pads are a hell of a lot easier to change than rear shoes too, so it's not a BAD idea by any means.

...but if you have the choice between Integra front spindles and getting the 10.4'' brakes up front and then adding the bigger 15/16ths master cylinder, or getting the rear discs and adding the same 15/16ths master cylinder go with the bigger fronts - it will be way more noticable than just rear brakes with the smller front stock Civic brakes.

I'll give you a perfect example of my point:

My wife had a 1992 Si hatch with the same size small front brakes that your DX has, but it had the factory rear discs on it.

My friend had a 1994 DX with Integra front brakes and Integra RS booster and master cylinder, but it still had the stock rear drums.

My friend's car stopped so much better than my wife's car, and they had the same AEM brake pads, so it wasn't the pad compound or anything.

Simply put bigger front brakes make more of a difference than just rear discs with stock small fronts.

I just noticed that you said the guy is throwing in the booster and master cylinder, but you might want to check the side of the m/c to see what number is cast into it. If it says 13/16 on the side it's the EXACT SAME one on your car right now! So it's not worth the swap if that's the case. If it says 7/8 or even better, 15/16 on the side then grab it and the booster too.
