Bought a used 2004 S2k.... I am very worried... what could be the problem?
Every time I start he car right undeneath me the car shakes sounds like the tranny. When I shut it off same thing... its so weird. Then when I go in to first gear there is metal clunk and car shakes a little its coming like from rear axle area.
If I go back into nutral and back into 1st it doesnt make that noise again. Only the first time I go into first then accelerate then come to a complete stop and put it into first again the it will clunk again, same in second.

well......ok i got a few answers maybe this will take your worries off. cause my car does the same. 1 those clicks is usally the temp of the car in some parts, after i drive it or when its getting cold/hot the car makes little clicks...2 when you stop and engage in first the car always do that, and u feel it from the back, im not sure mechaniclly wise, but its the transmission engaging in 1st gear, the shakes from what you describe i would seem that there very minor. u fail to realize that the car is so tiny and u praticlly feel everything thing in and out of u. AS stupid as this sounds when i get in my S i praticlly feel im 1 with the car. the clicks are normal the 1st gear engaging thing is normal. look around s2ki. I take it you never drove a rwd car. I doubt any of this has to do with problems with your car....if u feel so im sure ur under warranty n should go take it to the dealarship and ask a tech. They will let you know...trust me. Or ask several tech on s2ki. Good luck!
from my experience my car and the others i have driven all have a rattle on start up and shut off and a click when engaging in 1st gear. my friends '06 doesnt have the shaking when starting or shutting down only 1st gear engage
good luck
good luck
i was paranoid when i first got my car and every little odd thing that i found i thought was a problem, which pretty much found was all normal
just relax and enjoy ur S

when your at a stop light and disengage clutch and engage clutch again when putting into first you hear the sound. let go of the clutch and engage again and put into first and you hear that sound again
some poeple say its the lsd but im not sure probably the way the tranny was built but what do i kno?
i found it in every s2000 ive driven from 00, 01, 04, 05, 06

Try this:
Push clutch in
Wait a second
Shift into first
No clunk! At least that is how my s2000 is. I have heard before that this is nothing to worry about.
As for the shaking, do the revs drop immediately after start up for a second and cause the shaking?
